Welcome to the Eltaryon Campaign setting, a world of dark fantasy that was created over a decade ago for a home game. A world that has grown over a thousand hours of play sessions, and a thousand more hours of independent development.
Above all else, the setting aims to provide a fantasy world that feels lively, realistic, and immersive. The features that most set Eltaryon apart are its tone and scale. While providing a vast world filled with adventure, player aren't guaranteed to be generation defining heroes, and the world isn't facing annihilation every few years. Most conflicts will threaten countrysides, sometimes kingdoms will find themselves in peril, and on rare occassion, entire continents will hang in the balance. It is a truly rare thing for the fate of the world will be at stake, at least during a single human lifespan.
Though truly vile villains and virtuous heroes do exist, much of the landscape of
Eltár is painted in shades of gray. The outer planes are where the purest manifestations of good and evil reside but even Celestials may find themselves doing harm for the "greater good" and Fiends might aid virtuous heroes to further their own selfish ends.
Five Things You Need To Know
Every player and Gamemaster should know these facts about the universe of Eltaryon.
- Civilization is Sprawling.
- The Gods are Desperate.
- Shards of Mana.
- A Teetering Balance.
- A World of Intrigue.
The world of Eltar is comprised of four continents and many islands, thoroughly populated and marked with wondrous landmarks and diverse topographical features. These locations are grouped into eleven realms, each of which is vast enough to be a setting unto itself, each providing different challenges, cultures, and themes.
Arandal
Eltár's smallest continent. Its mainland is home to the Kingdom of Arandal, a predominantly human nation governed by a feudal monarchy. Interspersed among its lands are dwarven demesnes, hidden elven enclaves, and assimilated popuations of every species. Lorzumar, the island homeland of orcs lies a hundred miles from its western shore.
Campaigns set in Arandal provide a classic fantasy adventure, providing a balance of ranging from monsterslaying adventures to complex political intrigue, and everything in between.
Ruins of Alturia
Once the pinacle of magic and technology on
Eltár, Alturia was devastated by a calamity over 500 years ago. It now stands as a dismal urban wasteland contaminated by eldritch magic, abberant denizens, and fiendish monsters. Incredible wealth, lost knowledge, and wondrous artifacts lie ready for the taking by adventurers willing to venture into its ruins. Few survive its dangers, and those who return are harrowed by the experience.
Campaigns will seldom be set entirely on Alturia, but seasoned (Tier III or Tier IV) adventurers may make their way there to claim fantastic treasures or obtain a key item to thwart a villainous scheme. The threats on Alturia are so significant that lower level characters will truly struggle to survive.
The Empire of Qoyne
The Empire is an ancient and colossal civilization that spans nearly the entirety of
Eltár's largest continent. Led by the enigmatic and deified
God Emperor, it is characterized by military prowess and engineering marvels.
The Unified Provinces of Ibn Naiv
A country located in the northern half of the continent of Naivia. It is constitutional republic consisting of 13 provinces.
