Kalysian (kahll-lee-she-an)

The original language of the kalydrids of Kalys, it's a harsh, guttural language that utilises body language that many non-reptilian races would struggle to emulate and was impractical with more complex concepts. Kalysian has no written form and was notably primitive, with few words being used in conjunction to express meaning, making more modern concepts, inventions and discoveries described in very literal terms to try and convey their meaning. In example, their word for a wooden house would literally translate to "outdoor cave between dead trees."   The language quickly fell into obsolescence when the kalydrids first formed their symbiotic relationships with the elementals, whose psychic abilities allowed them to project images directly into people's mind, greatly aiding in understanding universally. As such, when they began their interplanetary conquests it became adapted into the more modern language shared across their empire to be known as basic today. Whilst a few kalydrids and the oldest of the eltari still retain knowledge of it, to the majority of the universe the language has been lost to time.   Nowadays it's practically considered a dead language, as even amongst the kalydrid tribes who still pass down teachings of it from generation to generation, the limited vocabulary and method of creating complex concepts into words is increasingly unwieldy within modern society. The original eltari who first learned the language when contact was first made have similarly documented how the language functions for posterity should any wish to look, but few circumstances arise where it would be relevant to attract many scholars.   Some people have made a connection with how the language works in relation to most animals with basic means of communication and liken the two to each other, much to the chagrin of the surviving kalydrids, and it has been theorised that methods generally used for talking with animals may allow one to understand kalysian, but this theory has no means of being tested as kalydrids are equally as comfortable (if not more so) with the common galactic standard they had established to maintain communication across their empire.
