Aasimar

The Aasimar are a rarely seen race on the material plane. A result of Humans interbreeding with Celestials they have the physique and appearance of Humans, though some of their physical traits resembles something more divine.   Some cultures revere the Aasimar as messengers of the Gods, while others sees them as merely another offshoot of Humans, one among many.

Basic Information

Anatomy

With the same generic physique as Humans, Aasimar can be hard to distinguish from their parent species.   Some Aasimar have the ability to produce wings, though this seems to be, most commonly, temporary. Their wings also seem to have no overall common features besides the most normal: 2 wings protruding from the back, resembling large birds in structure.  The color and material of the wings can very wildly, from feathers to pure light.

Biological Traits

The eyes of an Aasimar are usually bright, almost to the point of shining with an inner light, though this is not always the case. This trait also allows for vision in low light, no matter the brightness of an individual Aasimars eyes.

Genetics and Reproduction

Aasimar can breed with Humans, but no other race besides themselves. Somewhat troubling, a large number of Aasimar seem to be sterile from birth.

Growth Rate & Stages

Aasimar grows at the same pace as Humans, reaching their prime at average of 25 years. However, unlike thier parent species, they live to be much older averaging at about 120-130 years.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Aasimar are mostly followers of good and order in the material plane, therefore adhearing to the localized social hierarchy of whereever they find themselves. Some tell of Aasimar falling from the graces of the Gods, becoming caotic, reckless and malevolent, though none can tell if this is merely a myth.

Average Intelligence

The Aasimar do not possess an above average intteligence as a species, though given their small numbers on the material plane, it would seem most lie somewhere around and average sapient intelligence.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

All Aasimar are born with innate magical abilities, most commonly giving them the affinity for healing wounds.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Aasimar are named after the same traditions as Humans, given their close connections to them. In the case of Anaru, were commonfolk are usually named after their profession or region, Aasimar are named after their traits (ie. Gwendred Lighteyes or Ishara Goldwinged)

Major Organizations

Aasimar are revered almost anywhere they would find themselves.  Yet, some organizations take this to another level. One such group are The Yellow Dragons were Aasimar are given the rank of officer or above, by default. This stems from their perceived close connection to Pelor and the Aasimars involvement in the Fall of the Dragons

Major Language Groups and Dialects

All Aasimar speak common and celestial given their heritage.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Most Aasimar revere the Gods as their ancestors and this manifests as an utmost, almost zealous respect for all religious practices, at least the none-malevolent religions.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Most Aasimar dress themselves in light and bright colours, to represent their devoutness towards the Gods that gave them life. When nearing a ritual or a religious site, an Aasimar will follow whatever practice the faithful of that coven is bound by, as long as it is neither evil or malevolent.

Common Taboos

To turn ones back upon the Gods, or to even take their name in vain, is taboo bordering on despicable. One such Aasimar must surely have their reasons, as it is almost the same as turning away from oneself.

History

Not all Gods count celestials as part of their following and, as such, Aasimar are descendants of the Gods of kindness, order, righteousness, law, justice to name a few. Most Aasimar were created in the image of angels: celestial beings of pure goodness, themselves created to battle evil wherever they may find it, till the end of time. Some Aasimar may have been created in the images of other Gods (magic, nature, death), yet all share one simple fact: they were created by the powers of Order. No example in history has ever been uncovered of Aasimar that were created by forces of evil or chaos.   The Aasimar have always been a part of history, though often a small one at that. Since the births of the first Human cultures, there have been tales of "Humans with innate healing hands, given to them by the Gods", "Men with eyes of pure light, that shined bright at the sight of injustice", or "Soldiers of the Gods, sprouting wings in their tribes time of need", giving credence to the fact that Aasimar have long been part of the material plane and its human cultures.   In Nok'Taresh the Aasimar are known by another name; the Valkyrie. These Aasimar share all of the same physical traits as the Aasimar of Elpiri, yet they seem to differ from their cousins across the water by temperament, as most of the Valkyrie belong to the Godess of War, ???.

Common Myths and Legends

The Aasimar are believed to have been sent by the Gods of the Faerunian Pantheon, to be their will personified on the Material Plane.  Some say they are merely the offspring of some rogue celestial, that the Gods found some usefulness in.    The earliest tale of the Aasimar falls somewhere inbetween these two.   Once, when the world was young, yet the universe were old, the Allfather Pelor, the Light of the World had a favourite general in his army of Light. This general had been with him since the earliest days of the Allfathers reign and had been his instrument of war, in the Long War between the dieties and the infernal armies of the Nine Hells.   During this time, the general had proven himself again and again, eventually reaching the highest rank in the armies of Light. The general saw that the Long War would bear no fruit, that it would be never-ending if nothing was done to escalate the war efforts.    He went to Pelor with a plee: to use the Allfathers newest creation, the Humans, to bolster the ranks of his army of celestials, spirits and elementals. The Allfather refused him. The Humans were to be left alone, to grow and thrive under the Light of the new sun.   The general were heartstriken by this and became bitter with the war effort, as well as his role. So he did what none had done before: he went against his Gods wishes and went to the material plane, disguished as a spirit, to converse and recruit Humans.    There, he found men and women willing to join him in fighting for their futures and the longevity of the universe. The Humans believed him to be sent by the Sun, the earliest name given to the Allfather.    To ensure that the Humans would be able to survive the hostile enviroment of the Nine Hells, the general infused each of them with a small part of his own divine essence.   From this, the first of the Aasimar was born: soldiers of Light, to slay and be slain in the Long War, in the name of the Sun.   When Pelor found that his general had went against his wishes, he stripped him of name and title, and banished him from the Light, to wander the universe as nothing more than a spirit; the same form he had decieved the Humans with.    The Aasimar feared that the God of Light would punish them as well, yet Pelor did not. They had been decieved into going against the will of the Light and held no malevolence in their hearts.    And so, Pelor decreed that the Aasimar would return to the material plane and walk amongst the Humans, to serve as guidance and a beacon to the earliest Humans.
