Deer Valley
Deer Valley is one of eight regional territories of the Realm of Talevir.
The territory includes the seat of power for The Realm, Stagshead, but local governance is administered out of Hartsport, where The Antler River empties into Talevir Bay.
While bearing the name given to the valley at its center, the territory also lays claim to and controls the entire eastern half of Talevir Bay, the long coastal grassland of Ramshaven Range to the southeast, and the wooded hills surrounding and to the north of the valley.
While a fair proportion of the territory is comprised of wooded hills and the western half of The Spine, most of the territory is comprised of the fertile valley at its heart and the grassland plateau to the south. Place names - and often surnames of folk from the region - will frequently bear some passing reference to deer or game in some form. River tributaries are considered a point/pointe or a prong on a rack of antlers more than a branch. Roads frequently bear some mention of the sort of game trail they once were related to (ex. Triboar Trail following the Eastpointe Antler can be traced to boar hunting).
Scale:
From the hills in the north to the southern tip of Ramshaven Range in the south, the territory covers roughly 760km/470mi north-south; from the hills west of The Antler to the ridge of The Spine mountain range, the territory spans roughly 450km/280mi at the widest.
The valley, itself, runs 260km/160mi north-south and 150km/95mi at the widest, in a fan shape spreading out from Stagshead south to Hartsport and Fawndock. The High Road connecting Stagshead to Hartsport is about 270km/167mi, while the fairly straight, flat Low Road connecting Stagshead to Fawndock is about 240km/150mi long. Stagshead east to Eastpointe Mills is roughly 60km/37mi along the Eastpointe Road or 97km/60mi along the more hilly Triboar Trail.
