House of Aelnar
The House of Aelnar is a community of healers based at Stonehaven
An agnostic community they devote their skills to helping others in their local area (and any who travel to see them) and receive alms and protection in return for their services. Lead by an elected leader called Watcher
Aelnar was established in 1500AC by a small group of Elves who travelled north from their traditional homelands to Stonehaven. For a while the community was mostly Elven with a few lay supporters from the local community but over the intervening years its makeup has changed and the current members of the community are largely human.
The community draws its members from the surrounding region taking in a number of apprentices each year, some applicants travel from further afield to join, become skilled and then return to their hometowns. The exact number of apprentices taken each year depends on the size of the current community and its need for particular skills. During a review period at the beginning of each year the community meets and discusses applicants and at the end of a twelve month probation period agrees who of the apprentices will be offered a permanent position, the drop out rate is about 50%.
Members of the House of Aelnar are free to leave and many have over the years. Some choose to leave and take their healing talents to other parts of Ellios others to pursue other interests.
Relationships between community members are neither encouraged or discouraged, some members prefer to live a celibate lifestyle, others choose to join with a partner and raise children; the original Elven gene pool has been significantly diluted. It doesn't necessarily follow that children of community members will join the House of Aelnar themselves when they reach adulthood, this is a choice open to them and they may be given an apprenticeship just like anyone else. Internal apprenticeships do not affect the overall number of general positions available neither does their subsequent offer of a permanent position. For children of community members that choose to apprentice the drop out rate is only about 20%.
Whilst the community's focus is healing a broad range of skills is encouraged and in some cases community members are seconded to local businesses during their apprenticeship and early years of study to help develop additional skills that the community needs. As of 2874 the community has 45 adult members (25 men, 20 women) and 6 children under the age of 16. Six apprentices are currently going through their probation period in addition to the permanent community.
