The Wings of Darind the Bloodless
Summary
During the last days of the age of heroes, one Demon rose above all others through sheer cruelty and ruthless decisiveness. His name was Darind the Bloodless, and he was both mighty and fierce.
Soon enough, he rallied the Demons of Eleros, even as they scattered beneath the blades of the newfound Dark Atreian Elite Guard.
Darind gathered together the fiercest Demons in Eleros to his side, and they formed the legendary Council of Nine, the last defence of Eleros from the invading Kellanarians.
They gathered at The Nameless City and made their position impregnable. For years more they held out against the combined forces of the Kellanari invaders, but eventually they realised they would have to make a stand and push the invaders from their lands.
Darind the Bloodless led his troops into the Blasted Hollow, winging on the drifting wind. He killed hundreds of Kellanarian soldiers, and it looked like victory would come to the Demons before the Dragons came.
It was Darind's creator who took his wings, ripping them from his back with magic, just as he had put them there years before. The Warlock, Amber Mistfoot, took the wings and cast them deep into Lock Imrenal, where they sunk deep and far, never to be found again, or at least that was what Amber hoped.
Variations & Mutation
In some versions of this myth, the wings were taken and held deep within the Warlocks' Home Caves, where they protect them. Other versions include one where Darind was shot down and his wings ripped off, and then there's the version where Darind is still alive, wingless, looking eternally for his wings, and his past glory.
In Literature
The Battle of Burned Hollow is recounted in depth in Lantrath Okreg's 'To Cleanse a New World'.
His account can be summarised by this quote:
While there is no actual written account of Commander Darind's wings being removed, it can be decided that, upon general consensus, this did indeed happen. Consistent retellings have been gathered from the border town of Qarith to the dirty Sendril City, in Sitranth. Thus, it can be gathered that, indeed, the wings are buried somewhere, most likely in Loch Imrenal.

Hi David! I can tell you've really put a lot of thought into the world and the history and the characters. This really compelling! Just a question for some clarification regarding the myth - why were his wings taken off by his creator? Was this a punishment for leading the armies? Was his creator forced to do so by the dragons?
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment. As for your questions/clarification, I am only just getting started on World Anvil, and my content is a bit all over the place. I have a lot more lore stored in my head, as well as other locations, which I will, hopefully, get around to posting. I will, however, clarify this in the document. Again, thanks so much for commenting - it is really helpful.
No worries at all, David! I'm also just getting started and I have so much lore that hasn't quite made it onto the site yet. Glad to hear you're still working on it and expanding. Really intrigued to see where you take this world. :D
