Merio Magic Academy
Merio Magic Academy is a magic school in Arkrith, widely considered one of the best in the Kingdom of Erdantia, even rivalling the Kyras Academy. It accepts pupils both as long-term residents and for individually paid classes or courses. It is also home to the world's most efficient artificial Mana Capture Array
Design
The Academy is symmetrical in layout, divided into four sections. The central section is administrative and devoted to teachers. It fulfils a role in research, with a large library and observatory. The left wing is for the quarters of students living there, and contains areas for eating, sleeping, and socialising. The right wing is for classrooms, auditoriums, and training grounds. The cellar contains storehouses, pantries, and an expansive Mana Capture Array placed to be almost perfectly on-center with the leyline crossing point Arkrith was built around.
History
Merio's origins can be traced back to two magical scholars active in 1455, the Cordaintine battle mage Ela Montergo (distant descendant of Eriaen Montergo) and Orlo Eperin, an Avenic Elven enchanter who had previously served with the King of Aven. The two had met in Maiser at the Avenic Embassy of the Kingdom of Erdantia, where the two quickly became good friends. After working together for eight months, it was Orlo that proposed the idea of Merio. The name was derived from a rarely used Cordaintine word for knowledge of topics one is passionate about, derived from Eserisk Merien. Around this time, the government of Arkrith asked Orlo to build a large Mana Capture Array at the leyline crossing point in the City of Arkrith. The two seized the opportunity and requested a Magic University be built atop it, with excess mana not required by the Lord of Arkrith available for use by students and scholars. The university was permitted and the grant doubled. Construction began in 1456 and finished in 1461. Merio was born.
Today, the descendants of Ela and Orlo continue to own and run the university. It has been continuously expanded and modernised and remains at the forefront of magical innovation in Erdantia. It also serves as a de facto hub for Cordaintine magicians visiting the Peninsula of Erdantia. The Array has since been expanded, and captures power at a rate of around 5 megawatts.
