Erial

"You think you know how power works? All places are owned by lords or by kings, right? You should visit Erial. The lord is practically powerless, because he knows that if he raises taxes all the guilds will leave. The guilds run this town"
Erial is a large industrial settlement just south of the Long Mountains. It sits next to the Elkan River.

Demographics

Almost all of the inhabitants of Erial are either traders or work in the forges.

Government

While Erial is officially run by Lord Hunt, the guilds of the town hold huge amounts of power, which is sometimes abused.

Defences

Everon has a small palisade around all but one face. The north face is instead naturally defended by the bordering mountains. There are two watchtowers, both of which are manned by mercenaries.

Industry & Trade

Erial sustains itself from the transformation of ore into ingots. The ore is brought from the surrounding mining settlements in the mountains, and the ingots are sent around Thorn, usually via the City of Renn.

Infrastructure

Erial has several furnace-houses and forges. There are two large public storehouses towards the centre.

Guilds and Factions

Erial has a large number of guilds present. There are four smelting guilds, two trading guilds, and one mining guild, who perform little business in Erial but have elected to hold their head office there regardless. A mercenary guild has a small standing guard their (due to the small size of the militia).

Natural Resources

Erial borders the Long Mountains, a range rich in copper, iron, and tin. The mountains also have deposits of Kesselium.
