An artificer is somewhere between a mage and a mechanic, although is a mechanic first and foremost. They create machines that harness magical energy, usually storing that energy in Kesselium.
While no official qualifications exist, it is very difficult to run a successful artificery without belonging to a guild. Guild entrance, as with any guild, generally involves a ten year apprenticeship for the artificer, then creation of a "masterpiece" to present to their master. For an artificer, this involves solving a problem devised by the master, for example creation of a more efficient solution to a blast furnace, using artificery of course.
Artificers commonly make weapons for the military, especially the Eserisian military.
An artificer's tools are very similiar to those of a mechanic, although they also have to cast their own parts often, so they also use casting equipment.
Artificers use Kesselium in almost everything they create, as it is very conductive of magic. They also use a gas known as Aortum, which is known for its ability to expand and contract depending of intensity of magic running through it. An a magical insulant, copper or tin is commonly used.
