Sir Arthur Hurst

Arthur Hurst is a Avenic-Erdantian combat mage specialising in Electromancy. Until recently he has been fighting for the Kingdom of Erdantia in the War of Eserae but has left to join Staema Alera after the end of the war.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Athletically, Arthur is in fairly good shape, but accidents from Electromancy (widely considered one of the more dangerous forms of magic) have left his hands and forearms scarred and burned. More recently, he has developed cataracts, leaving his vision clouded.

Special abilities

Arthur is a very talented mage, and one of very few to specialise in Electromancy. He is familiar with Cordaintine, Erdantine, and Shadraki magical practices, and studied at the Kyras Academy.

Personal history

Arthur was born in Aven on the 48th of the Month of Vada, 1555 to an ambassador from the Kingdom of Erdantia and an Avenic mage. He stayed in Aven for much of his childhood, before eventually moving to the City of Renn with his parents in 1561. His mother began teaching him basic magical principles at the age of 11, and he caught on very quickly. At 13, he moved to the Kyras Academy, staying until adulthood.   After leaving Kyras, Arthur was immediately recruited into Erdantia's military to become a combat mage. In time outside of campaigns, he devoted countless hours to reading into the works of Eriaen Montergo, forming an incredible understanding of magical sciences. He eventually discovered Electromancy, and was instantly enthralled by its power. He began to apply it in combat, arcs of lightning firing off from metal plates on his insulating leather gloves to his enemies. He focused huge amounts of time into increasing his magical capacity, high magical requirements being one of the biggest drawbacks of Electromancy.   After the end of the War of Eserae in 1591, Arthur left Erdantia's military to pursue his own research. It was at this point that he met the enigmatic mage and scholar known only as S. They agreed to exchange knowledge of magic, and the two became close friends. Arthur eventually moved into Staema Alera to co-author the Encyclopaedia of Elemaran with him, where he remains today.

Motivation

Arthur feels a deep desire to protect people. He enlisted in Erdantia's military after seeing the catasprophic effect Syndal had on the south-eastern coast of Erdantia. This, he managed to experience first-hand due to Kyras's proximity to the coast. While the academy was far inland enough to escape attack, it saw its fair share of people fleeing their homes, taking in many of them itself. Arthur knows he has caused death, and is willing to cause more to save people from invasion.
