The Watcher

The Watcher (Beht'aduri name tbd), or the Watcher Amongst the Sands, is a creature that is greatly feared by the nomads who wander the desert wastes of Beht'adur. Those who did not grow up amongst the dunes or along the oases found there often scoff when people bring up the Watcher, and often explain it away as a trick of the eye. 
But everyone who live where the Watchers roam know that they are real. They take on the form of a jackal similar in appearance to the jackals depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphics. They are bipedal with night-black fur, and distance often makes them seem like they are made of smoke or shadow. They are often seen during dusk and dawn, and outlanders are warned to not wander too far from settlements during these times, as that is when the Watchers appear and snatch their victims.
Yet... no one really knows what happens to the victims of the Watchers. No one actually has seen them eat the victims they snatch...
