Everyone knows that the backstreets of the city aren’t the safest places to be in the dark of the night. After all, why waste slow-burning candles or oil in places when most in the city should be asleep? The night-watch and the guards stick to the lit streets, opting to stay away from the darkness unless they hear a cry for help. This leaves great swaths of the city open and available to be used by anyone in the underworld.
Aesyur et Thím Gûthuwal is one of the many who walk in the shadows of the underworld and those dark alleys. As a member of the Thieves Lodge of Thím Gûthuwal, he is a member of the notorious Spectre Trio of thieves—Ghost, Phantom, and Shadow. On the streets, he is known as “Phantom”, and only his fellow thieves know his true name.
Rarely does he work alone, and does most of his jobs with his closest confidants, Ghost and Shadow. He would turn to them before he would confide with their leader, Hood. Together, they play the game of sneaking into the homes of the rich, stealing valuables, and holding them for ransom before returning them. And with them he has been hired to explore old ruins to find treasure.
Though he finds sticking to the shadows thrilling and invigorating, he can’t see himself being a thief forever. Having become a thief out of necessity, orphaned from a young age and a street-rat until Hood found him, he knows he doesn’t want to still be a thief when he is old and grey. So when the king came to him with the desire to hire him, he couldn’t refuse.
King Rymhûl hires him to keep an eye on the underworld and report to him once every fortnight—and tell no one. He is paid ten gold every meeting, and he stashes them away in a hidden place that only he knows of.
