Repulsion of Sveldvar Military Conflict in Eldris | World Anvil

Repulsion of Sveldvar

The Conflict

Prelude

The power play began with the High King Gyrmandus sending a poison to King William Ableford slipped into some wine. It was supposed to be a peace offering between the kingdoms. William soon fell very ill, diagnosed with Mana Stagnation. The malicious ruler taunted and dangled an antidote to William at the price of the kingdom of Gyrmania, and with it, every mage living within the country in chains. William was ready to sacrifice himself to protect his people. In a desperate bid to save his friend, Hadrick Steelheart masterminded a campaign to force the antidote from Gyrmandus' cold dead hands.

Deployment

Deployment began with the mages and military of Gyrmania working their way to the capitol while Agaland's forces followed on their heels or interspersed in disguise through Gyrmania's ranks. Gyrmania's main force would consist of mages and magic users to lure Sveldvar into a false sense of security, as Gyrmania's primary military being magic and Sveldvar specialized in the defeat and subjugation of mages.

Upon reaching the capitol, a siege began, aiming to lure out the Sveldvar forces and King Gyrmandus himself. Once he took the field, Agaland's main forces would take the field and crush the opposing foe.

Battlefield

The Capitol city of Sveldvar became the primary battlefield for this conflict.

Conditions

The siege took place in the midst of winter. A raging snowstorm broke out mid combat, forcing both sides to retreat.

The Engagement

The battle did not go exactly to plan for the Gyrmanian side. While the first half went as strategized, the snow storm and weather conditions dragged on for days and worsened William's condition. As he grew weaker, Hadrick ordered his forces front and center to storm the field despite the conditions. Each soldier was paired with a mage to clear the way and protect him. The Calvary charged first to clear the way. The Siege breakers followed up and brought down the gates. Unprepared for the military might of Agaland, Sveldvar's forces fell. Yet, in the end Gyrmandus had lied and there was no antidote, no cure. In his rage, Hadrick gave the man over to the mages freed from Sveldvar control. William died shortly after Hadrick returned to camp, given the mercy of death by Hadrick at his own request.
