Magnetic Shakes
The Magnetic Shakes is a disease found deep in the Gadrobi Highlands at The Forsaken Prison. It affects the prisoners there that are forced to delve deep into the supernatural mines dotting the mountain range. It is greatly feared by all Vastryans because they know that if they are ever sent to The Forsaken Prison, the worst part will be dying of the Magnetic Shakes.
Transmission & Vectors
Fortunately, the condition is not contagious due to it only developing from prolonged exposure to the Magnetic Oprum, which is largely avoidable unless you are a criminal.
Causes
The Magnetic Shakes are caused from prolonged exposure to the rare metal known as Magnetic Oprum, an ore found only in the depths of the Gadrobi Highlands, that has magically enhanced magnetic capabilities. Vastryans believed that long ago, during the creation of Velaria, the Orc God Gruumsh shattered the ground with a strike from his gargantuan Bloodspear, sundering the earth and forming the highlands themselves. However, the spear was also destroyed in the process and scattered underneath and throughout the new mountain range. The Orcs of Vastrya believe that they are mining the fragments of the Bloodspear, scientific name Magnetic Oprum , which is why it contains such power. Magnetic Oprum has immense magnetic capabilities, strong enough to easily crush bones and separate even the smallest amounts of metal from other substances. The magnetic power of the shards is so strong that the prisoners that are forced to mine it develop Magnetic Shakes because being near the Oprum for so long pulls at the microscopic metals within the humanoid body, such as zinc and iron, and pulls them to the surface. This interferes with the bodies natural system, and causes sever shakes, seizures and finally, death.
Treatment
The only known treatment is to stop working in the mines of The Forsaken Prison, which many prisoners attempt to do in various ways. These include, gaining promotions and overseeing prisoners, attempting to escape, being released from goodwill. There are rumours that a new magic school of Metallurgy, being experimented with in Amaron could help with the condition.
Prognosis
The first symptoms usually appear on the victim after 3 years of working in the mines. This includes mild shakes throughout the body.
The disease progresses from there with continued exposure, after another 3-4 years of exposure, the symptoms increase to having full body seizures and spasms on a regular basis.
After that, around 10 years since starting to work in the mines, the skin resembles a greyish complexion and the seizures become more deadly, most do not live longer than 11 years working in the mines.
Death caused by the Magnetic Shakes is extremely painful because your body gets stuck in a violent, constant seizure for days on end. You are unable to move and suffer spasms that rack your body with pain endlessly. Then, your mind slowly fades away, becoming an incomprehensible blob were your consciousness used to be. The constant pain turns you insane, eventually killing both the body and the mind.
My brother served 10 years at the Forsaken. Came back all grey and shivering even when it's hot. Found him a year later, frothing at the mouth and convulsing on the floor, begging to die. I'll do anything to not be sent to that prison.
