Gith

The Gith were a race of humanoids who had been enslaved by mind flayers for countless generations. Some sages claimed that they were once descended from humans, while others maintained that their original race was in fact unknown. After breaking free from their enslavement, philosophical differences led to a bitter internal conflict, which divided the gith into two main different races at constant odds with each other: the githyanki and the githzerai. The githyanki are warlike people roaming and raiding the Astral Plane and Limbo. The githyanki culture is built around glory earned through raids and have their most feared chiefs riding red dragons while their followers sail in Astral ships. The githzerai are a nomadic people focusing on meditation and training in the psionic arts. They reside in monasteries made entirely of Adamantine and are so in tune with the psionic powers they originally learned from the Mind Flayers that some of the elder githzerai are just as fearsome as the githyanki.   Unnder the tyrannical rule of the Mind Flayers, the gith were slaves until a single hero managed to strengthen and join together the gith people into a force powerful enough to overthrow their oppressors. Under her leadership the gith managed to do just this, taking advantage of the momentary absence of the fearsome Pentergost, Mind Flayer Tyrant. This hero's name was Gith, and her people have taken that name in place of their original forgotten name.   Gith are tall and emaciated-looking humanoids. They have pale yellow skin, sometimes with greenish or brownish tones. Their skulls are long and angular, with deep-set eyes, flattened noses, and long pointed ears. Typical hair colors included black, red, russet, and sometimes gray.   The gith were an utterly sundered race. Divided by generations of conflict and ideological differences, the two main sects of the gith people regarded each other with nothing but contempt, hate, and wariness. The intense hatred that divided the race was further exploited and amplified by the mind flayers themselves, who kept spies in both githyanki and githzerai communities tasked with stoking their ancient rivalries.
