Grímmdr
Overview
Grímmdr, often referred to as the Stonefather, the Eternal Smith, and the Keeper of the Deep, is the god of craftsmanship and earth within the pantheon of Eldorath. As the creator of the dwarven race, he holds an unrivaled position of reverence among dwarves, who view him not only as their divine patron but also as the very embodiment of their culture and resilience. Grímmdr’s influence extends beyond his creations, as he is also seen as the patron of all who labor with their hands, particularly artisans, smiths, and masons. He is married to Vestra.
Origin
Grímmdr was born from the primordial beings of Darkness and Order, emerging as a force of stability and creation in a world shaped by chaos. According to myth, he carved the dwarves from stone and Vestra imbued them with life, crafting them in his own image as beings of unparalleled endurance and skill. He is also married to Vestra, the tempestuous Goddess of Storms, whose wild energy contrasts sharply with his stoic nature. Their relationship is said to be one of balance, marked by both passionate love and fierce quarrels, that is responsible for earthquakes.
Personality
He is a stoic and methodical figure, embodying patience and discipline. He is slow to anger, but his wrath, when provoked, is described as unrelenting and devastating, much like a rockslide or an earthquake. He holds deep respect for precision, loyalty, and hard work, and he is known to favour mortals who dedicate themselves to mastery in their crafts. Despite his admirable qualities, Grímmdr can also be inflexible and overly critical, making him a demanding patron for those who seek his guidance. It is rare for him to interact with any mortal.
Worship
Grímmdr is widely worshiped among dwarves and other artisans who revere his mastery of creation. Rituals dedicated to him often involve the dedication of tools or the carving of runes into stone. The most sacred site of his worship is the Forge of Grímmdr, a legendary temple said to house the Eternal Forge, located deep within the heart of the mountains towards the very south of the continents, the home of the dwarves of Brightfrost. The Day of the First Forge, an annual festival, commemorates his creation of the dwarves and is marked by feasting, crafting competitions, and ceremonial offerings by almost all dwarven Clans.
Appearance
Grímmdr has a muscular, broad build, that only hints at the immense physical strenght he posesses. He has long, dark hair, that flows in curls past his shoulders and a thick beard that adds to his rugged and commanding appearance. He wears the typical gear of a smith or craftsman, always ready to work in his forges. His face is aged, rough and rather plain compared to that of other Gods, but he never cared about his physical appearance, his focus is towards the appearance of the things he can craft.
