Fae

In the rich tapestry of Eldarion's mythology, the Fae stand as the ancient progenitor race from which all faeries and other Fae creatures trace their origins.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Unlike their descendants, the Fae possess the ability to shapeshift at will, assuming forms that reflect their connection to the elements and natural energies of Eldarion. They can appear as ethereal beings of pure light, majestic creatures of the air, or as elemental spirits that embody the very essence of earth, fire, water, or air.  The appearance of the Fae varies widely, reflecting their connection to different aspects of nature and elemental magic. Some may have translucent wings that shimmer with iridescent hues, others may possess radiant skin that glows softly in moonlight, while still others may appear as beings composed of swirling mist or crystalline light.  Fae are typically smaller than mortal beings, ranging from tiny sprites and pixies to more humanoid-sized beings. Their size allows them to navigate Eldarion’s dense forests, shimmering meadows, and hidden glades with ease, blending seamlessly with their surroundings.

Biological Traits

Fae possess unparalleled mastery over nature magic, allowing them to manipulate flora and fauna, control weather patterns, and shape landscapes according to their will. They can accelerate growth, imbue plants with healing properties, and create enchanted gardens that defy mortal understanding.  Fae excel in the art of illusions and glamour, casting spells that enchant the senses and alter perceptions. They can create illusions of beauty and wonder, conceal their true forms, or weave intricate illusions that transport mortals to realms of dreams and enchantment.

Behaviour

Above all, the Fae cherish their connection to Eldarion—a realm where magic flows like rivers, where dreams take flight on gossamer wings, and where the boundaries between the mundane and the mystical blur into realms of wonder and possibility.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Fae are deeply attuned to the celestial rhythms of Eldarion, drawing power and inspiration from the phases of the moon, the dance of the stars, and the ebb and flow of magical ley lines that crisscross the realm.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

The Fae organize themselves into mystical courts or clans, each presided over by powerful rulers known as Seelie and Unseelie Monarchs. These courts reflect the dual aspects of Fae nature—light and dark, summer and winter—and govern their interactions with mortals and other supernatural beings.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Fae celebrate seasonal festivals tied to the cycles of nature, honoring the solstices, equinoxes, and lunar phases with elaborate rituals, feasts, and performances of music, dance, and storytelling. These festivals strengthen their bonds with each other and reaffirm their connection to Eldarion’s natural rhythms.

History

The Fae are primordial beings, embodying the raw essence of magic, nature, and elemental forces that shape Eldarion. They emerged from the heart of the world during a time when the cosmos itself was in flux, their forms coalescing from the energies of creation and the dreams of the universe.

Common Myths and Legends

The Fae are caretakers of Eldarion’s natural world, nurturing the growth of flora and fauna, tending to sacred groves and enchanted springs, and maintaining the delicate balance between the mortal realm and the realms of magic.  The Fae believe in the cyclical nature of existence, where life, death, and rebirth are part of a perpetual dance within the cosmic tapestry. They honor their ancestors through rituals that celebrate the passage of seasons and the eternal renewal of life.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Fae interact with mortals, wizards, and other supernatural beings in Eldarion, sometimes forming alliances or testing mortals with trials of wit and courage. They may offer gifts of magical artifacts, impart wisdom, or bestow blessings upon those who prove themselves worthy of their favor.  Stories abound of mortals who have incurred the wrath of the Fae through disrespect of nature, breaking sacred oaths, or trespassing into their hidden realms without permission. Such tales serve as cautionary reminders of the Fae’s power and capricious nature.
