Dragon

Dragons are an ancient and formidable parent race, revered for their immense power, wisdom, and longevity.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Dragons come in various forms and sizes, reflecting their elemental affinity and lineage. Some dragons resemble classic Western dragons with large wings, reptilian scales, and fearsome claws. Others may have sleek, serpentine bodies with iridescent scales, resembling Eastern dragons.  Dragons are often associated with elemental powers based on their habitat and ancestry. Fire dragons breathe torrents of flames, while ice dragons exhale blasts of freezing air. Some possess control over lightning, earth, or water, manifesting their powers through breath, claws, or magical abilities.

Biological Traits

Dragons possess formidable breath weapons aligned with their elemental affinity. These can range from searing streams of fire to torrents of icy wind or blasts of raw elemental energy.  Some dragons possess the ability to shape-shift into humanoid forms or create illusions to conceal their true appearance or manipulate perception.  Elder dragons often develop telepathic abilities, enabling them to communicate over vast distances or forge psychic bonds with other beings. Mind magic allows them to influence thoughts and emotions, though such powers are used sparingly due to their potential for manipulation.

Genetics and Reproduction

Dragons grow continuously throughout their lives, with hatchlings starting out as small as a horse and maturing over centuries into colossal creatures capable of reshaping landscapes with their mere presence.

Behaviour

Many dragons are scholars at heart, delving into arcane knowledge, history, and the mysteries of Eldarion's magical ley lines. Their vast libraries and treasure troves contain scrolls, tomes, and artifacts dating back millennia, offering insights into the realm's ancient past.

Civilization and Culture

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Dragons organize themselves into hierarchical clans or families led by elder dragons known as Wyrmlords or Wyrmqueens. These leaders possess centuries of accumulated knowledge and magical prowess, guiding their kin in matters of governance, diplomacy, and defense.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

Dragons value tradition and honor their ancestors through elaborate rituals and ceremonies. These include rites of passage for young dragons, celebrations of celestial events, and gatherings to renew bonds among clans.

Common Myths and Legends

Dragons believe in a cyclical view of existence, where death is not an end but a transformation into another state of being. They revere their ancestors and celebrate the birth of new generations as part of the eternal cycle of renewal.  Dragons hold a deep reverence for Eldarion's natural world, viewing themselves as stewards entrusted with maintaining balance and harmony among its diverse ecosystems and sentient races.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Dragons are respected across Eldarion as ancient guardians of wisdom and protectors of the land. They forge alliances with druids, wizards, and noble houses to safeguard sacred sites, ancient relics, and realms threatened by darker forces.  Dragons occasionally interact with humanoid races, trading knowledge and artifacts in exchange for alliances or assistance in matters requiring mortal intervention. They often play pivotal roles in historical events, serving as advisors or arbiters during times of conflict or diplomacy.
