Wood Elf

The Twathedilion

Wood Elves, or Twathedilion as they call themselves in their own tongue, are a deeply nature-bound subrace of Elves in Eldaivyr. Renowned for their close ties to the forests and their exceptional abilities in stealth and archery, Wood Elves live in harmony with the natural world, acting as its stewards and protectors. Their lives are interwoven with the flora and fauna of the woods, making them elusive and mystical beings in the eyes of other races.   Origins and History: The Wood Elves’ are believed to be the most closely related to the original Elves in the creation mythos of the Old Ways. To this day they choose to align closely with the natural world, eschewing grand cities for the tranquility and depth of the ancient forests. Over centuries, their connection still runs deep, granting them unique abilities and insights related to the natural environment. Their lore is filled with tales of their interactions with forest spirits, battles against encroaching desecrations, and the deep bonds they’ve formed with the land.   Society and Culture: Wood Elf society is decentralized and clan-based, with each clan governing itself through a council of elders and adhering to its own customs. Despite this fragmentation, all clans share a common reverence for nature, which influences all aspects of their culture, from architecture—often built high in the treetops or seamlessly integrated into natural features—to their celebrations and rituals, which are closely tied to the seasons and natural cycles.   Physical and Psychological Traits: Wood Elves are typically more rugged and earthly in appearance than their High Elf cousins, with skin tones that mirror the rich earth and leafy canopy: hues of green, brown, and tan are common. Their hair ranges from light green to deep brown, and their eyes usually reflect the colors of the forest, such as dark brown or vibrant green. They are lithe and agile, adapted to moving quietly and swiftly through dense foliage. Psychologically, Wood Elves are intuitive, perceptive, and often more pragmatic than other elves; they are survivalists who are deeply philosophical about the cycles of life and death.   Relations with Other Races: Wood Elves are typically reclusive and wary of outsiders, which sometimes makes relationships with other races strained. However, they are known to form strong alliances with races that share their respect for nature, such as Druids  of various races or the Gnomes. They view the encroachments of more industrial societies like Humans  and Dwarves with suspicion and subtle hostility, only engaging with them out of necessity or alliance against common foes.   Religion and Beliefs: Religiously, Wood Elves have remained mostly loyal to the Eldar of the Old Ways but also worship the Beast Lords as a form of animal spirits. They can also be found worshipping nature deities that embody various aspects of the natural world—growth, decay, hunt, and harvest. Their spiritual practices are deeply animistic, recognizing spirits in every tree, stream, and breeze. Rituals often involve offerings to these spirits, dances that mimic natural patterns, and music that echoes the ambient sounds of the forest. They believe in a symbiotic relationship with the forest, where each action and life contributes to a greater cycle of energy and sustenance.
