Moon Elf

The Selûnar

Moon Elves, or Selûnar, are a subrace of Elves in Eldaivyr marked by a haunting beauty and a solemn demeanor. Born from a curse inflicted by the Sun Elves and saved by the enigmatic grace of the goddess Mórrígan, they embody resilience and mystique. They thrive in the shadows and are most alive under the moonlit sky, reflecting their deep connection to the darker aspects of the celestial.   Origins and History: Originally part of the broader Elven community, the Moon Elves' fate diverged dramatically following a severe conflict with the Sun Elves. Cursed to endure a life bound to the shadows, they faced potential ruin. However, Mórrígan offered them refuge in the shadows, turning their curse into a source of power. Embracing their new form and powers, the Moon Elves now exist in a state between the mortal world and the ethereal, drawing strength from the shadows and the moon.   Society and Culture: Moon Elves have a culture steeped in mystery and nocturnal magic. Their communities are often hidden in the darkest reaches of the world, where the moon's influence is strongest. Governed by a theocratic system devoted to Mórrígan, their society is both somber and intensely loyal. Rituals and cultural practices often involve communing with shadow energies and celebrating lunar phenomena, emphasizing their transformation from cursed victims to empowered devotees.   Physical and Psychological Traits: Moon Elves are pale, with an ethereal quality to their appearance. Their skin absorbs the moonlight, giving them a luminous, almost ghostly glow. Their hair often appears in shades ranging from deep blues to silvery whites, and their eyes might shimmer with a reflective, star-like quality. They move with a silent grace, adapted to their life in the shadows. Psychologically, they are introspective, often contemplating the deeper mysteries of existence and their place within it. Their endurance of the curse and subsequent salvation has imbued them with a solemn maturity.   Relations with Other Races: Relations between Moon Elves and other races are cautious and reserved. Their deepest enmity lies with the Sun Elves, whom they view as betrayers and eternal foes. With other races, interactions are guarded, shaped by a collective memory of betrayal and suffering. However, they maintain a respectful distance from other Elven subraces and are known to ally with those who respect their devotion to Mórrígan and their need for seclusion.   Religion and Beliefs: The Moon Elves' religious life centers profoundly around Mórrígan, whom they worship as their protector and savior. She is revered not just as a deity but as the embodiment of their salvation and strength. Their religious observances are deeply mystical, involving shadowy rituals and moonlit ceremonies that reinforce their bond with the shadow and the night. Mórrígan's temples are sanctuaries of shadow and refuge, rich with symbols of moons, ravens, and night skies.
