Wynna Gavrel

High Lady Wynna Gavrel (a.k.a. The Hammer)

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Wynna is in peak physical shape for her age—broad-shouldered, well-muscled, and heavily trained. Her strength and stamina re legendary even among the soldiers she used to work beside.

Body Features

Strong limbs, numerus faded scars along her arms and legs, and dense bone structure from youth combat training. Her posture is rigid and perfect, often looking imposing to those around her.

Facial Features

A square jaw, sharp cheekbones, and a nose broken and set at least twice, permanently just off. Her eyes are sunken slightly, giving her a hawk-like gaze.

Identifying Characteristics

A branded seal of the Empire burned into her left shoulder, and she bears a long scar over her right brow, barely an inch short of having blinded her.

Physical quirks

Right-handed; walks with long, purposeful strides. She rarely removes her gauntlets, even to eat, and almost never smiles except in combat against those she considers less than human—including any target she is assigned.

Apparel & Accessories

Steel-toned plate armor engraved with the Imperial eagle, and her crimson half-cloak pinned with the Imperial crest. She wears an enchanted ring with the Imperial seal and carries a steel plate of office declaring her authority. She is almost never seen without Carnodicta, her maul, across her back.

Specialized Equipment

Wynna uses her namesake maul, Carnodicta, across her back. The striking surface of the weapon is engraved with "In the Name of the Emperor, Break." in Cetandari. The maul is rumored to be enchanted, but few who have seen it drawn and employed have survived the encounter, and so details on its workings are sparse, strictly as Wynna prefers it.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born to the noble House Gavrel, Wynna was raised in a household that prized duty over privilege. Groomed for service to the Emperor , she proved early that she lacked any taste for luxury or idleness. Her rejection of a betrothal arranged by her house marked the start of her rise; instead of marriage, she chose the blade—and was soon enlisted into the Imperial legions. Serving for years, she rose through the ranks, eventually changing out her blade for a large, two-handed hammer, preferring to crush through armor than trade blows in a standard Cetandari fashion. She became a ruthless force on the battlefield, enforcing the Emperor's will against foes both foreign and domestic.   Eventually, she left the service, but not the Emperor's side, joining the High Court as a judge. However, after only a few years, she found herself bored of the life, seeking something more interesting. With her skills and history, she was granted entry into the Inquisitorial Mandate of the Imperial Throne, serving as a personal hound of the Emperor, hunting down those who proved a great threat.

Employment

Wynna serves as a roving inquisitor for the Emperor. She investigates high crimes, sedition, and heresy, but more often than not, her job is simple: find and remove dangerous enemies of the empire with extreme prejudice.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  1. Crushed the Kelvar Uprising. Wynna ended a rebellious noble's rule as he sought to take out the royalty of his region, taking their place. She fought into his hall, many of the guards—still loyal to the Emperor or simply fearing Wynna—stayed out of the way. She slew Lord Kelvar in single combat, dragging his corpse out by his shattered skull.
  2. Refused a Land Grant from the Emperor. For her services, the Emperor sought to reward Wynna with an estate of her own, rather than just her family's estate. Despite the generous gift, Wynna rejected it, stating she believed it would get in the way of her duty and provide a potential exploitable weakness.
  3. Recovered the Royal Sigil Ring of House Ethonar. House Ethonar had faced trouble when a group of coordinated rebels made intricate copies of the rings, reinforced by the Lord's own ring, which was stolen. As a Royal House, Wynna sought to restore its honor in the Emperor's name, slaughtering all who bore the fake rings and recovering the true ring, bringing the wearer in nearly fully broken, but miraculously alive.

Failures & Embarrassments

  1. The Kyntharan Heir Incident. While seeking for a cultist, many clues pointed toward the noble Kyntharan house. Following these clues, they turned out to be a trap set by the cult itself, and Wynna slew the lordling heir she had mistaken as the leader of the cult. While the royals of the region tried to publicly cover it up, Wynna stepped forward, admitting to the mistake. After catching the true cult, she was severely punished, and spend three years in the dungeons of House Kynthara as a result, but the Lord eventually released her for reasons unknown to the public.
  2. Strained Ties with the Church of Basileus. Despite being a public followers, Wynna has repeatedly disregarded clerical involvement in investigations, straining her relationship with the church.
  3. Reputation Among Peasants. Wynna is far more feared than respected anywhere she goes, even by the innocent. This has led to many being unwilling to cooperate with her.
  4. Imperial Disciplinary Review. Wynna has been put up by many royals and nobles alike, accusing her of excessive force and causing fear and damage in the environment around her, but she was cleared, stating all of the charges are part of her duty.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Wynna seeks to uphold the will of the Emperor, not out of devotion, but because order is the only thing she believes keeps the world from collapsing. She trusts few, loves none, and fears only becoming soft or vulnerable. As such, despite her growing age, she seeks to keep her body in optimal condition, even when it requires paying out vast amounts for clerical healing when she inevitably injures herself again.
