Sanctified

Causes

This strange condition is caused by the touch of a divine being, whether holy or unholy. This touch is referred to as the Sacred Resonance, a strange phenomena that can be heard by other Sanctified, allowing them to know if another Sanctified is nearby. Those that are affected can be born with the condition or acquire it later in life, though even those that do acquire it later are often pre-destined to do so, having had a latent mark already.

Symptoms

Sanctified individuals find themselves massively empowered. Those that are sanctified are able to heal from even near-lethal wounds with only a night of rest, and almost all can wield seemingly endless amount of magic or martial might. A Sanctified gives off a subtle noise when using their gifts that can be heard by other Sanctified nearby. This noise seems to manifest differently for each individual Sanctified, with most reports stating it is a familiar noise, even if they can't place it, and others describing it as a familiar sound from their childhood or younger life.

Affected Groups

The gift of Sacred Resonance seems to rise almost randomly and can affect any species or age and either gender without preference.

History

The Sacred Resonance is through to have been caused by the Chosen of numerous deities working together, releasing their essence with the aid of their deities. This sacrifice of the Chosen allowed for new heroes to rise much more readily, weakening their deities in the short term in return for long term gain in power.

Cultural Reception

The Sanctified are seen as divine heralds. It is seen as a mark of great importance on those that are affected by it, and should a Sanctified make themselves known, they are welcomed within most settlements throughout Elaris. Should a Sanctified by known to be created by a malevolent or evil power, they may be shunned, but it is rare for them to be outright attacked due to the great strength of the Sanctified.

This option requires special permission to take. In the case of spells, psionic powers, and similar options, this option must be found in the world and cannot be taken upon level-up.

This condition is created solely to explain the massive changes of game design moving upwards, such as the Short and Long Rests of 4th and 5th edition restoring all hit points and often times curing conditions compared to the slow, much more natural, healing of 2nd edition.
