Sun Elf

The sun elves are one of the tree original subspecies of high elves on Elaris, shaped by Eredhan in the image of his radiant son, Glandaer. Where the star elves embody balance and the moon elves martial elegance, the sun elves shine as the luminous architects of intellect and arcane splendor. They are stewards of elven high magic, the builders of skyborne cities, and the keepers of traditions so old they predate mortal history. Brilliant, dignified, and proud, they are often seen as the golden heart of elven civilization.

Appearance

Sun elves are striking and unmistakable. Their skin bears the luster of polished gold or sun-warmed bronze, and their hair ranges from honey-blond to copper-red, often styled in flowing, elaborate patterns that echo the flames and rays of the sun. Their eyes glow faintly—typically amber, topaz, or gold—and seem to flicker when struck by direct light. Everything about their bearing reflects cultivated brilliance: their posture perfect, their gestures refined, their voices clear and measured.

Culture and Philosophy

The core of sun elven culture is the pursuit of radiant perfection. Knowledge, art, and magic are not merely practices but holy disciplines, inherited from their divine roots and refined through millennia. Their greatest cultural treasure is their elven high magic, a collective spellcraft requiring intense synchronization among trained casters. This magic is not quick or convenient—its strength lies in permanence and magnitude, enabling miracles like the floating capital of the high elves, the suspension of entire islands, or the warding of cities with magic that lasts for centuries.   Sun elves view themselves as guardians of the elven soul's upper path, ensuring their people never fall into entropy or barbarism. Education is universal, beauty is refined rather than natural, and art is practiced with obsessive intent. They believe the world should be elevated, and they are often willing to lead—or impose—to see that ideal fulfilled.

Offshoots and Divergence

Not all who followed the golden path remained one with their divinely ordained path.   Some sun elves, during a time of war with the Ryushin people, fled across the sea to the burning sands of The Kuneirmeru Desert. There, they were transformed by the innate environment and the harsh landscape into what are now known as the mirage elves—secluded illusionists whose bodies ripple like heat and whose culture turned inward, cloaking survival in secrecy and magic. Though descended from the sun elves, they are no longer welcomed as kin, and their abandonment has forever set them apart. Others, in seeking knowledge too deep, too dark, and too selfish for their collective path, delved beneath the world itself far from the light of the sun. These became the deep elves—a subterranean lineage known for their solitary strength, cunning, individualism, and brutality. Unlike the mirage elves, the deep elves were divinely punished and set apart from the sun elves, no longer genetically equals. They have fully lost access to elven high magic, as they have lost the harmony of will and purpose common to elves.   To the sun elves, both offshoots are mourned as lost echoes, fascinating but flawed. Yet even in disdain, the sun elves maintain records and histories just in case the day comes when the lost may return.

Society and Government

Sun elf civilization is built on enlightened hierarchy. Merit, intellect, and age determine status, and many of their most powerful leaders are centuries old, having studied the same field of magic or philosophy for generations. Titles are often earned through magical achievement rather than blood, and bureaucracy is an arcane web of ritual, precision, and ancient law.   The capital of the sun elves floats in the sky, held aloft and still by high magic—a sprawling sanctuary of marble spires, cystalline walkways, and golden treetops. At its center stands the Tree of Life, the most ancient living entity on Elaris. The city is accessible only by spell, airship, or celestial bridge, and it is guarded not only be elite warrior-mages but by magic woven into its very stone.   Sun elves rarely wage war, preferring diplomacy, enchantment, or subtle manipulation. When forced into battle, they fight with flawless discipline, wielding magic as blade and shield. Their spells are precise, overwhelming, and often coordinated—many sun elf battlemages train in squad-spellcasting formations, fusing their power into elegant destruction.

Religious and Mythic Identity

Sun elves revere both Eredhan and Glandaer above the others of their pantheon, with the latter holding special importance as their spiritual exempar. Where the moon elves look to Eruwen for grace and beauty, the sun elves meditate on Glandaer's flame—a guiding light of will, clarity, and purpose. Temples are filled with sun mirrors, enchanted firelight, and harmonic chanting that echoes through domes of glass and gold.
Though they acknowledge other elven deities, few sun elves hold them anywhere near the level of their two primary deities. Even so, rites of memory and commemoration, especially for ancestors and fallen scholars, are deeply sacred.
