Zelseris

Incarnation of Nightmares

In an ancient story, it is said that there was a moment in history when all of humanity prayed on the same day for deliverance from the terrors that visited them in slumber. These prayers gave birth to the Incarnation of Nightmares, who granted their wishes and took their nightmares away. Subsequently, human imagination and ambition filled the vast emptiness that resulted from their prayers, giving birth to the Incarnation of Dreams who proceeded to craft creativity into visions to give back to humanity. The next day, all of humanity rejoiced, praising the night sky and exonerating the two newborn saviors with festivals and praises in their honor. These festivities gave definition to the Incarnation of Nightmares and the Incarnation of Dreams, and subsequent prayers to them personified them into the sister goddesses Zelseris and Esther.   The elder of the two sisters, Zelseris is worshipped as a stoic guardian who bears the nightmares of the sleeping world on her shoulders. Bad dreams are considered a sign of Zelseris’ disapproval of a recipient’s actions, and actual nightmares as a punishment for crimes. Zelseris shares a deep bond with Esther, so much so that the two even share one primary church. However, as she is associated with the space between the stars, Zelseris is also revered by many monks who wish to understand the concept of pure nothingness. Zelseris may not be as popular as Esther, but the former holds no ill will towards the latter and thinks nothing of the difference.
