Appleridge

Appleridge is the fanciful name that the barony close to Fenfield has obtained after a peculiar story developed upon its funding. It is said that the grandfather of the current baron, Commander Justus II von Krug, was routed in the beginnings of the Hobgoblin-Achitar conflict, after an ambush that left his forces severely crippled. The men and women, battered and with their morale at an all-time low, asked for a miracle to be delivered forth so that they could fight the approaching hosts of vengeful Hobgoblins. For an entire night, von Krug prayed forth to his god, Thaius, for a favor to aid them.   But Thaius’ nature meant that an answer was found after the soldiers were forced to climb up a ridge, as the opposing armies approached. At the top, they found a few apple trees, which when eaten, provided them with the strength they needed to fight off the Hobgoblins, aided too by their elevated position. This became one of the first major victories of the Achitarian forces against the Hobgoblins, and one of the reasons that the land of Fenfield was able to be reclaimed.   Hushed rumors and very obscure books tell that von Krug not only found the apples for his troops but he too was provided with an enchanted amulet, which when activated it was said to release a sweet, intoxicating aroma, similar to apples, and to provide its user with a boon. As to what it was, however, it is lost to time.   In the original site of the army victory, a small fortress was constructed upon the large hill that gave the barony its name, and a small settlement was constructed along the slopes, which has remained quite successful to this day, its citizens engaging upon activities such as farming, having had to adapt to make the most out of the fertile yet sharp inclines of the area. However, unlike many sites upon Fenfield, the area holds a small mine, which has thus far been able to be exploited to great success.   The current Baron of Appleridge goes by the name of Helmut von Krug, and is a fair, but unwavering man, who rules well but it is said to favor progress over the well-being of his citizens. Still, people under the Barony seem to enjoy a relatively stable economy and a peaceful existence upon Appleridge.
