Personal history

Lyell is the second son and youngest child of James and Ellen Jameson. Growing up his parents heavily favored his older brother, James, because he was the oldest child and would therefore inherit their father's wealth. Though not cruel to Lyell, James took this attention and grew to believe that he, be birthright, was more important than his brother. Often feeling neglected Lyell took solace with his grandmother, Gina, who was his greatest supporter. He kept in contact with her until her death, even when, at age 19, he was drafted into the military. In his first few years there he rose in ranks quickly and ended up commanding a small force under Lieutenant Perlu Marksway. Because of this he became one of General Marksway's advisors and eventually struck a friendship with her. The two would continue to correspond after Lyell completed his service and returned to his home town near Astor's Pass. There he managed and worked on a farm and became the military coordinator for his area. He took this post in part because of his dedication to the mililitary but also because it gave him an excuse to more closely correspond with Perlu Marksway. The two had grown close and still made arrangements to see each other a few times a year. They eventually started courting and would later marry. At that time Lyell became Lord Lyell Marksway and moved to Glenwin city to be with his wife. He maintained some land in his home town but split most of it between his two younger cousins, Christine and Stephen. In Glenwin City he felt largely out of place in the king's court but found his place as an agricultural advisor to parliament. At this time distance grew between Lyell and his family both due to the physical distance between them and due to their new differences in social class. Nevertheless, Lyell made efforts to see them a few times an year, particularly once he had children. Because of this the Marksway family would often vacation in Lyell's home town over the summer. However, once his children were grown this happened less often. Throughout his adult life Lyell continued to advise parliament on agricultural matters but also found himself becoming an advocate for the common people as he aged. He worked with his sister-in-law, Lihishay Leonant, to make health care more widely accessible in rural areas, and was a proponent of consulting with experts before passing laws. Lyell would later die from a heart attack at age 87. His wife followed 6 years later at age 93.

Gender Identity

Lyell is a male and presents as such, sometimes to a further degree than is true to himself. Though masculine he is not so stereotypically. He is quieter and less impulsive than Daneshi culture presents males as well as less sexually active. When around other men however, he will sometimes try to overcompensate for these traits despite how uncomfortable it makes him. He does this less when in mixed gender, or all female settings.

Sexuality

Lyell is asexual and demiromantic. He finds that he does not fall in love easily and had courted few girls before meeting his future wife. He had very casual relationships with all of them but felt uncomfortable discussing this with his friends who all seems to move relationships much faster than he did. He never minded being asexual but felt embarrassed living outside social norms. He became more comfortable with himself after getting married when his sexual experiences became more private. Even so, he did not have much sex within his marriage and did not feel comfortable consummating his marriage until several months into the arrangement. This was a great source of embarrassment to him despite his wife generally being supportive of his identity.

Education

Due to living in a small mountain town, quality education was not readily available to Lyell growing up. He attended the village's one room school house for much of his early childhood. There he learned the basics of reading writing and arithmetic although his education was largely supplemented by his parents who were wealthy enough to own a collection of books. His mother taught him more advanced literature out of these books and his father taught him math enough to help manage the family's finances. Because of this Lyel and his elder brother, James, soon surpassed the other children in there school. The next year the Jamesons saved enough money to send both boys to a boarding school in a larger town nearby. Lyell attended this school for three years after which his formal education ended and he was brought back home to work on the family farm. During those years Lyell learned a great deal about subjects he had not been exposed to before, including history, cartography, horse care, formal manners, government, scientific reasoning, and formal Daneshi speech. Of particular interest to him was geography. It was in these years that Lyell developed his longing to travel the world which would later lead him to join the Daneshi military. In the military Lyel's education began again, he learned sword fighting, survival skills, rudimentary medical skills, and strategy. In addition he also developed a better understanding of geography, leadership skills, and formal etiquette.

Intellectual Characteristics

Lyell is intelligent but much more of a planner than a leader. He prefers to work behind the scenes and offer support rather than be the figurehead or the one in charge.

Morality & Philosophy

Lyell greatly values loyalty and so is loyal himself. He is loyal to his family above all else, followed by his country and himself. He has a strong moral compass which guides him to be ethical in his dealings and to speak for the peasentry when he can.

Quotes & Catchphrases
- It's like, all my life people have been telling a joke. And everyone finds it hilarious but I don't get it. And it keeps getting retold and embellished and everyone loves it but I still don't get it. And no one can believe that I don't understand. And one day, I finally got someone to explain it to me, and it turns out that it's not that I don't understand the joke, it's that the joke isn't funny. But everyone else is still laughing anyway.
