Virtue
Virtue was a Jeltiri druid who lived in the EL 700s and is notable as the first prominent documented tiefling to be known for altruistic deeds. He was born to human parents who named him Issl and abandoned him when he was eight years old, but he managed to survive in the wilderness until he was about thirteen, at which point he made contact with the small lumber town of Broadhorn that had just been established near where he lived and faced problems with the wildlife. Later in life, he described how the townsfolk seemed utterly different from his parents, and worth protecting. His appearance as covered with dirt and leaves seemed, somehow, to dull their horror at his infernal heritage, and they accepted his help.
He lived in and near Broadhorn for several years, developing his druidic powers, before the town's reeve received word that his help had been requested in another town in the region, a larger one. He was hesitant, but accepted the summons—only to be met with strong hostility, as Broadhorn's reeve had never disclosed his race. The companion with whom he had traveled, the reeve's eldest daughter—and his eventual wife—vouched for him, and Issl professed that he had never lived in or desired evil, and would strive to live a life of virtue. He then introduced himself thus, by the name of Virtue, by which he was known from then on.
He battled fear of him for his entire life, and dark dreams he believed to be sent by fiends who would impede his righteous ambitions, but eventually settled into a position as the advisor for the Lord Victris Shier of the small Vumboldan town of Fig Knoll, from which he acted as liaison between Lord Victris and adventurers and between Fig Knoll and the Northern Marshes for many decades.
His most prominent legacy, beyond the simple willingness to accept tieflings as not inherently evil, is the practice among tieflings of selecting "Virtue" names.
