Tiefling

Tieflings are humanoids whose blood has been touched by fiendish magic, by an ancestor being a native of a lower plane, an ancient curse, or some other remote but distinct association. This association manifests in the form of horns, tails, eyes with no pupils or irises, and often unusually colored skin.
In most places, tieflings are outcasts, the subjects of supernatural fear. Most of them, if they survive childhood, end up living noteworthy lives, as criminals, mages, or adventurers. With no collective homeland, tieflings must either assimilate into the one into which they're born, or strike off to try to find their own place in the world. The former option made near impossible by their clear infernal heritage, many choose the latter.
Tieflings have a limited amount of innate magic and some resistance to fire, and inherit high levels of charisma from the source of their fiendish power. Though they have no proven innate tendency towards evil, many tieflings end up there, shaped by the expectations they face every day, and, often, contact with whatever gave them their fiendish heritage. There are many stories of tieflings being visited by fiends who offer them power and possessions in exchange for favors. Historically, it seems that many accept these deals.

Naming Traditions

Provided a tiefling isn't thrown out by his or her birth parents, the name given to him or her is likely to be reflective of that culture. However, when growing up, and particularly when beginning a solitary life, as many do, many tieflings choose what are called "Virtue" names, which signifies some concept they have accepted or will try to embody.
In some cases, tieflings may be given infernal names, though this is rather uncommon.
