Loia

The Loia are an amphibious, non-humanoid, semi-arachnoid species that live constrained to Katkye Eywin, the grand City of Ghosts (known as the Lóthi Isles by other civilisations). They have very high spatial, logical-mathematical, and bodily-kinesthetic intelligence, but are otherwise not very intelligent. They are extremophiles, surviving entirely off of the intense electromagnetic fields and radioactivity of Katkye Eywin, and have a short lifespan of merely 10-20 years. They average 8 feet in height, and reproduce asexually 1-2 times during their life.

The Loia are not psychic, spiritual, or religious, nor do they have any form of government or economy. Their sole societal goal is to build and maintain Katkye Eywin, where for eons they have constructed massive high-rise buildings out of stone and their own cement-like excretions with great efficiency. These buildings house the souls of those who chose to deny reincarnation and stay behind in Katkye Eywin in their own sikku, or “soul room,” where they may enjoy their memories and comforts of life until the return of the Ilixmae, after which point only those who have continued to choose rebirth will walk Eir in the great battle against the Void.

The Loia routinely venture into Wys Yaro (known by other civilisations as the Galmor Sea) in search of building materials, and work virtually non-stop. When tired they will fall asleep exactly as they are standing for approximately four hours, after which they will awaken and immediately resume activity. Upon death the Loia disintegrate into an ash-like substance. Their oral language, @ky', is limited to construction and planning, and they have no written language.
