"Despite the diversity in size, shape, and ability, all scalekin, including wyvern, share the same logical mindset that, so precise in intent and directed in execution, without even so much a hint of sympathy or restraint, that should they ever reveal themselves of more complex ability, may just eclipse the capabilities of man in their entirety."
- Archmaegister Evermead, Master of Many Pauses
Introduction
No matter what region one travels to, from the everlasting grasslands of Si'val to the crags of Dunmar, scalekin and their larger wyvern cousins can be found in almost every corner of the world. Fledgling genealogists may be surprised when they first learn that the quaint gecko and gargantuan hammerhead are indeed related, but one needs only to look into their eyes to see the familial link. The scalekin is defined by their unique penchant for logical thought, scalekin are possessed of singular purpose, and pursue prey with focused precision and deadly haste.
Personality aside, scalekin also shares the same cold-blooded composition, often with sharp talons, a long, slender body, inverted eyelids, and of course, scales. The texture and additional features of these creatures can vary, often as a result of environmental conditions that have cultivated the different species over eons. Scalekin can be traced back to the height of the Avarician Empire, and wyverns, in particular, hold spiritual significance in some regions.
Wyverns
Most scalekin struggle to overshadow a small dog, but wyverns, depending on species, often dwarf even a group of full-grown men. Said to originate from snakes, lizards, and others touched by aspected meteorites, wyverns not only command a fearsome presence and stature, but some even possess the capacity for elemental magicks. Perhaps the only vulnerability, of which a creative trainer can take advantage, is their singular mindset, which limits their capacity for cunning and strategy.
