The Mistlands Accords
In early 1906 CE a decision was made by the Mubari senate to allow trade with surrounding cultures and beyond. Outlawed foreign goods from outside Mubari cutlure had begun surfacing in the major markets across Mubari lands, and it was decided it was better to regulate and control the goods rather than restrict them. With the admission of traders and trade conglomerates, came foreigners looking to settle with the Mubari and learn their culture. With the foreigners came families, and when children began sharing tales, whispers of the Twilight Shade were always prominent.
In the small chapels of the Church of the Twilight Shade are maintained copies of the Map of Tears. The Map of Tears is still maintained and is the most comprehensive map of the Rift anywhere on Eilea. It contains notes on flora, fauna, hazards, refuges and any other tidbits that survivors of the Rift think will be of value. The map is named for the many who lose their lives gleaning the secrets of the Twilight Shade. The official source map is guarded in a senate vault along with digitized data, but all who know anything of the Twilight Shade know it is folly to enter the Mistlands without consulting, or carrying a copy of it.
As stories of the Rift and its priceless, unique natural treasures spread, certain powerful families among the branded decided they should be the ones bring such riches to the rest of the populace. The Lynx family was able to demonstrate it could mount the quickest expedition, but how to find the Rift remained a mystery. Those who knew of the Mubari were familiar with the Mistlands and some had even seen the Eternal Falls, but the explicit location of the Twilight Shade was never referenced. Even the Map of Tears lacked coordinating marks so it would be useless to the uninitiated. The Lynx sought the services of the Silent Scream, and the needed information was quickly procured, no questions asked.
In late 1932 CE (no one involved is willing to put exact dates on these things even today) the Lynx expedition of 300 men and women descended through the Mistlands into the Rift, the first non-Mubari to do so. The party entered from the farthest known entrance from the Hrinman. Ten weeks later, 27 survivors dragged sledges piled with their bounty out of the most accessible exit. It was bad enough that they encountered a Mubari pilgrimage descending as they clawed their way up out of the Rift, but the sight of the pelt of a revered midnight claw sent the pilgrims into a rage and the expedition party was slaughtered to the last member.
The Silent Scream had kept tabs on the situation of course, and stepped in as the Mubari senate called for the execution of any found with the brand of the hated Lynx family. The Resk in residence in the Hrinman, approached the senate in contrition. He confessed his role in assisting the Lynx, but also expressed his desire to make things right and help the Mubari control access to their sacred site. The senate raged at his announcement and presence, but they had also been briefed on who the Silent Scream was.
The discussion was quick and the Mistlands Accords were drafted hastily to save Lynx lives. The Silent Scream only asked for a handful of geologic samples recovered from the expedition. They also promised to personally see to the silencing of any parties the senate indicated, but this offer was declined. The Silent Scream did not mention to the other branded families the mobilization of the Mubari hunters globally. As a point of honor, the hunter cells do not target the Resk families and the Silent Scream has not interfered in Mubari concerns since.
