PIIG - Pagloan Inter Island Guard

As the widespread Pagloan Archipelago covers over a thousand islands, the populations running from 10's to over a million on any given island, the nation organized the haphazard local constabulary into a nationwide law enforcement organization answerable to the people.
Members of the Pagloan Inter Island Guard (PIIGs) are respected and celebrated among the law abiding populace and feared by those who choose to treat with illegal enterprises. The energetic easygoing culture of the Pagloan islands loves a good pun and embraced any porcine related nomenclature to apply to the police force, the agents of which embraced it in good humor.
Citizens who accept the assignment to become a PIIG agent (hogs and sows) are given a month of intense training at the Piigpen. Equipment is assigned from a nationwide pool, which becomes the agent's personal property after successfully serving for two years. Assignments extend as long as a wallow supports its serving PIIG.
Standard equipment includes a dual engine jet-ski (endearingly known as a squeal due to its high pitched engines), a stun baton (porker), a heavy curved machete with a saw tooth spine (tusk), and a sawed off pistol grip shotgun with non-lethal loads (rooter). Most agents also leave the Piigpen with (or can request as situations require) more deadly armament and munitions, but these are not mentioned in polite conversation.
PIIGs have an autonomy unseen anywhere else across Eilea. Agents are given their authority by the people they serve (piglets), upon confirmation from the Piigpen. A biannual census gauges the effectiveness of acting agents. Poorly performing or corrupt agents are quickly removed on verification of negative evaluations and relocated for their protection from an often vindictive populace.

Structure

Overseeing agents assigned to the Piigpen (boars) are active duty agents with global jurisdiction who also serve as an oversight and internal affairs committee when needed. Hogs and sows bristle whenever boars arrive in their jurisdiction (wallow), but when it does happen they know it means either a local situation extends far beyond their wallow, or that they are under scrutiny after a negative report or vote of no confidence from the piglets.

Culture

PIIGs enjoy their job. They are friendly with the piglets, and in turn the piglets look to their PIIGs for assistance in all kinds of situations. However as friendly as relations are, both sides know that when the need arises, the actions of a PIIG are firm and final.

Public Agenda

PIIGs serve to protect the piglets in their wallow from themselves, from lawbreakers, and from external threats as well. On a global scale, it is recognized that while the Pagloan Archipelago does not maintain armed forces, PIIGs serve as a standing militia that can be mobilized in an instant with overwhelmingly deadly consequences. No one wants to see a thousand squeals coming at them each with PIIG that will happily, laughingly even, do a whole lot of damage.
