The Reckoning War

Seed Idea:

500,000 years before current time, the ancient Sovathy Empire was at it's peak. Harnessing the power of the Aeythrane-Sovat crystals, they built an armada of airships, magical cannons and short range blasters capable of arming their average, non-magical knights with up to twelve spell rounds.

As the world buckled beneath the weight of Sovat technological advancement, the other species pleaded to their Gods, true-God and not, wishing for an end to the conflict. For another hundred years their prayers went unanswered as the Sovathy war machine ground countless races and species into dust.

Eventually, however, the pendulum of war - that ruthless calculus which determined acceptable and unacceptable losses - tipped in favor of intervention. Even the Great Dragons, those venerable elders of their species who were so famously dismissive of mortal affairs, could not ignore the loss of life.

Their intervention was swift and sure - driving the Sovathy back to their home isles within a week.

And if the other species saw fit to exact revenge on their weakened adversaries? Well, that wasn't the Dragons concern.

The Conflict

Outcome

Sovathy holdings on the continent fell first, followed by all of their outposts on Seravi, Icehorne and Berran. Forced to retreat beyond the Whirling Straits, the Sovathy fortified their defenses at home - believing they were impenetrable.

The Dragons razed all major population centers soon after midwinter, a brutal manuever that left the Empire crumbling - their leaders dead and their major sources of commerce burned to embers in a single night. Soon after, waves of vengeful enemies from the continent arrived, taking what remained and killing those they found.

Forced to choose between their technology and their lives, the highest ranking Sovathy general left alive chose his people - loading one single airship with survivors and fleeing to the southernmost island of their archipelago. There, he organized what remained of their mages to construct defense after defense - effectively hiding them from the outside world.

Aftermath

The consequences of the Dragon's interference in the Reckoning War still ripple through time, warping the people of the present day. Modern day Kejas seeks to reclaim the might and magic of the ancients, seeming to seek the anger of the Gods and the Dragons in the process.
Conflict Result
