Korvoi

The Korvoi are known as the elite guards for the ruler of Rhynnacea. Superficially, some may consider them less impressive than other guard units, such as the Barsian Imperial Guard, but for many of those in the know, they would rather have a unit of Korvoi to protect them from serious danger.
To be fair, both these groups are elite warriors selected and trained to provide specialised bodyguarding services. However, while the Barsian Imperial Guard also fulfil an impressive ceremonial function, with a certain public status, the Korvoi are all business. Sometimes referred to as the "Silent Guard" or the "Black Guard", their image is mysterious, and perhaps sinister to some.
A unit of Korvoi will always be seen together, in their black uniforms, and are so highly trained together that they usually work without need for verbal communication, even in a crisis. They are generally percieved as presenting a stony, stoic expression, and while they can and will smile, they generally hold a professional reserve which makes them seem distant.
Their heads are always covered with a kind of scaled coif or helmet, and so their ears remain unseen, but by height and build they are generally assumed to be either human or elven. Certainly they show no distinct male or female characteristics through their uniform armour and clothing. Although the Korvoi themselves seem human or elven, the craftsmanship of the specialised armour and weapons is undoubtedly dwarven, and can be traced to one specific Dwarven guild, on the Isle of Craglewith. Needless to say, the precise methods and materials required to make these is a closely guarded guild secret. 
The armour itself is a unique combination of some kind of tough but supple hide, and some scaled metallic elements, both of which appear intrinsically black, and minimally reflective. Over this is worn a short dark cape, somtimes embellished but usually quite plain. Whatever other weapons the Korvoi may carry, each will always have a pair of sharp curved blades, about 1-2 feet long, and some specialised throwing darts, with barbed points, and made of the same black metallic substance. Distinctive, and hard to remove, anyone struck by one of these should certainly consider themselves 'Marked'.
