The Imperium

Created by Matthew D Russell
From the outer ring of Cadguard one might think this city to be a place of oppression, but you see it in another light. Born and raised in these lands you have grown to love the order, the clockwork motions of life here. All here are treated with a respect regardless of class or standing.   Even you, a slave would have life no other way. Food, housing, and education are supplied to you by the rightful Lord of Aeroloth, who watches over all from the Blackstone Citadel sitting high upon Mount Dragonforge at the city center. The common folk of the other nations have your nation all wrong. You step into the entrance of The Trials, to earn your worth among the Ebon Corps, and help to spread peace and stability to all of Aeroloth.

Structure

The head of government, and final word on law is the Warlord. Below him exist his Honored Ones, trusted warriors and advisers who give the Warlord advice on his decisions and future outcomes.   The government empowered Ebon Arcane are on off-branch of the Ebon Corps who oversee all magical knowledge of the Imperium, as well as preserve that knowledge and history as well as turn magic into a military tactic.   Below all of them are the Ebon Corps, those who make up the city guard, as well as the main arm of the military.   Finally there are the Masters, and the Slaves castes. The Masters are made up of Natural born Imperials, and the Slaves are descendants of those who were taken as captives in the 3rd Era. Though they are slaves mainly in name only, most are content with their place in society, and are very rarely looked down upon.

Public Agenda

The Imperium seeks to conquer, and unite the lands of Aeroloth, under a single flag for the desire of peace at any cost.

Assets

The largest asset of the Imperium is its Dragonsteel, followed by its massive army, airships, silver, siege engines, numerous forts, coastal and border watch towers, and strong horses.

History

The Imperium was formed from the alleged true bloodline of Bjorn the Firsts' lineage, and his followers. After the Republic was formed citing that it was to be the governing force in the wake of Bjorns' death, the Imperium was formed by Loyalists to the Bloodline in the following years, officially formed in the southern lands in the 2nd Era Year 161.

Demography and Population

The total population of the Imperium totals to 10,350,000 citizens. The birth to death ratio is 2:1.

Territories

The Imperium owns the largest amounts of land of any of the three major nations. Namely they hold the vast Dead Wastes, and everything south of the River Dale. These lands were once either Republic lands, or Freeman lands, but was taken long ago. Most that live there now have long forgotten about the details in which the Imperium acquired these lands, or simply do not care.

Military

The main arm of the Imperium Military is named the Ebon Corps, and is broken down into several specialized branches, each overseeing different sections of the military dedicated to differing types of combat.   The Ebon Blades are the bulk of the Imperiums' military force, and encompass all ground based forces including foot soldiers, cavalry, and archers. While they make up the general idea of what is implied by the word "army" they are not to be underestimated. All were tested in the fires of The Trials, and are veteran combatants out of the training grounds. They are large in number, and they are deadly in form.   The Ebon Arcanists are the Elite of the Imperiums' offensive magic division, primarily made of considerably powerful Sorcerer lineages. While fewer in number than the Republics' militarized magic division, they make up for it in incredible skill. They work both on the field and in study for the creation of new military weapons, as well as serve as advisers if one is inducted into the Honored Ones.   The Wingmasters are a small division of the Ebon Corps that works in tandem with the Machine Corps. Wingmasters are responsible for piloting the Skyships of the Imperium. Though the militarized Skyships are few in number, the civilian skyships are used in war times for logistical reasons. While militarized Skyships are few in number, they hold dominance in the sky, as no other nation has access to these types of vehicles.   The Machine Corps is a non combative branch used in the research and development of future siege engines, typically with some magical aid of the Ebon Arcanists. Their latest creation; The Skyship was only recently put into mass construction and is considered something the Imperium prides itself on as the first nation to create commercial and military flight technology.

Technological Level

While magical technologies lack somewhat compared to the Republic, the Imperium has instead focused on combining both the arcane and the mechanical together. While somewhat more crude than what the Republic offers you could say their technology levels are about the same. The Imperiums' obvious technological advantage over the Republic however is its use of Skyships in commercial, logistical, and military operations.

Religion

Officially the government only supports one God; Kord. You will not find other temples or churches to any other God in the Imperium. Once upon a time worship of any other deity was met with harsh punishment from the law, and technically those laws are still in place, but ask any Imperial and they will tell you those cases have become near nonexistent. As long as one does not openly disgrace Kord, the people are left to their own religious practices. That is not to say all gods are welcomed to be worshiped though. The following are still strictly enforced as evil or dubious gods worthy of jail time or even death in some cases:   Asmodeus   Bane   Gruumsh   Lolth   Tharizdun   Tiamat   Torog   Vecna   Zehir

Foreign Relations

The Imperium deals rarely with outside relations. From time to time they will sell certain weapon surpluses to the Freelands, but that is few and far between. Because of this stand offish nature most outside forces see the Imperium as untrustworthy, although some remain simply neutral in attitude towards them. This is shown by most Freeland settlements as having little interest in the Imperium. Their relationship with The Republic is obviously quite different as the two nations have a tenuous past, and currently exist in a cold war like state, while openly hostile when in neutral grounds for the most part.

Agriculture & Industry

The Imperium is an industry focused nation with a deep desire to utilize machinery in any way they can. With the few farms they have, most utilize machinery to assist in farming in some way. Food is mainly procured in three ways; from orchards, hunting, or fishing. Its largest industrial benefactor is a rare type of steel named Dragon Steel that is native to the lands. Two mines support its Dragon Steel demand, and one aids it with precious gems. These mines are Farduun Mine, Darbuul Mine, and the Devron Mine, respectively. The lands are also lush with timber sources collected from all over, but the best of it is collected from OakValen lumber yards. Lastly the Warhorses of Burke are known to be the hardiest of any horse breed in Aeroloth, capable of pulling more weight, and surviving much harsher conditions than the average horse.

Trade & Transport

All trade between major companies within Imperium borders is done via Skyship as it is the fastest transportation available. Smaller businesses that move smaller freight find it to be cheaper to move their cargo via caravans travelling the major roadways. Any trade done outside the nation borders is done on traditional wagons as well, or by ship if applicable.

Education

All members of the Imperium are required to go to an educational facility for their first 12 years, this goes for those of the slave castes as well, and all costs of said education are paid for by the Imperium. Those who reach the caste of Honored One are required to take another 8 years of education to best assist the Warlord in their respective field.

Infrastructure

The cities and capital city of the Imperium sport a full sewage system, while villages typically only have an aqueduct system. The borders are completely sealed off with steel walls, and guarded by tall military watchtowers. All settlements support docking zones for Skyships either in the form of pavilion landing zones, or towers to dock to. All major roadways that cross rivers have supported bridges. Every settlement has a garrison of Ebon Blade watchmen, and all settlements big and small are protected with large steel walls. There are Castles located in Mercer, Burke, Rockport, and of course, Cadguard.

Major Imports
The Imperium as an isolationist nation imports very little though there are exceptions.   It is not unlike the Imperium to trade with the Freelands for the grain of Goldsfield. The Imperium having near to no grain production means very little grain based food such as bread are produced. Bread, the most common of foods in the rest of the continent is a rarity in the Imperium. As such bread is considered an exotic food savored for special occasions.   Lastly, pearls are large in demand by different tradesman, as well as sorcerers for use in spellcasting. The main way of getting these pearls is from the Republic, though there are strict laws forbidding trade of any kind with the Republic. This has created a black market fronted by a group of pirates in the eastern isles that attack Republic trade ships and fishing ships for their goods.
