The Gates of Kord

Two hundred and forty feet tall stand the gates of Kord. A testament to the God of Storms and Combat. The walls black with dragonsteel it stands in remembrance of the wars in the fourth era. Now it stands tall and silent, forever guarding civilized Imperial lands from the wild dangers of the cursed Dead Wastes.

Purpose / Function

The Gates of Kord serve as separation marker between the Southernlands, and the Dead Wastes. In the Eras of the past it was the main point that armies from the Imperium travelled up to wage war on the Republic. This is the reason the Gates we constructed in the first place; to bless the soldiers who passed though on their way to battle.

Architecture

The Gates of Kord and the surrounding walls are onyx black, the side facing the Dead Wastes is jagged and pointed instilling a sense of aggression and fear. The side that faces the lush southernlands is covered with inscriptions, prayers, and Kord iconography seemingly made by loved ones who lost their families in the wars of old. Large cogs and gears adorn the upper half of the structure, working the elevator platforms and the large gates themselves that sit 100 feet wide.   The walls themselves are defended by a host of Ebon Corps men known as the Blades of Kord, a group that is sworn for life to defend the Gates. The Gates also feature a number of watchtowers that are outfitted with large ballistae, with smaller scorpions along the walls defending the Gates from the dangers of the north.

History

The construction of the Gates of Kord began in 520RH, towards the end of 3E by the then current Warlord of the Imperium, Burk Regahl, who would never see its completion for he would be assassinated by his son but 5 years later. The Gates would see completion in 526RH a mere 6 years after the first dragonsteel plates were molded. This was a relatively short amount of time for a project of this scale, but this was a time when the Imperium was still treating slaves as tools and less like people.
