Stonevein

Stonevein

The Quiet Strata

Overview:
Stonevein is an ancient dwarven mountain hold nestled within a crescent of rounded granite hills north of Whitefork. To most of Gothmyr, it is regarded as a secluded dwarven guild hall devoted to the study and refinement of stonecraft.

No armies march from its gates. No jewels or precious metals are traded from its depths. No boasts are made of conquest or bloodline supremacy.

Stonevein is known publicly for one thing: Architecture.

Its scholars and master masons study granite as others study scripture. Load distribution, stress tolerance, interlocking geometry, seasonal expansion — these are treated not merely as craft but as doctrine.

Among dwarves, Stonevein carries quiet reverence. It is considered older than most living clans. It does not involve itself in politics, alliances, or border conflicts. It is not summoned to war councils.

It is simply… there. As constant as the hills themselves.

Location:

Stonevein lies partially integrated into the granite hillside of the northern crescent hills beyond Whitefork.

From most angles, the hold appears to be a natural rock formation shaped by time and erosion. The entrance follows a natural vertical seam in the granite.

Water from a diverted tributary flows down a fault line near the gate, partially concealing its geometry.

There are no towering battlements. No dramatic spires. No banners. It resembles a natural wonder more than a fortress. The hold is positioned above stable bedrock and away from major trade roads.

It does not invite casual visitors.

History:

The founding date of Stonevein is uncertain.

Dwarven records within the hold claim its origins predate the current political configurations of Gothmyr.

Unlike Iron Jager Halls, which are known for warfare and border vigilance, Stonevein was established for study.

The earliest surviving tablets within its Oath Chamber describe:
• Preservation of structural knowledge
• Recording of lineage and craft standards
• Defense of dwarven creed through endurance rather than aggression

Stonevein aligned itself with the dwarven deity Alstrün, “The King,” delegated All-Father and patron of Champions, defense, and righteous battle.

Yet Stonevein does not train armies. It trains discipline.

Champions raised in Stonevein are expected to defend the creed when called — but the hold itself does not seek conflict.

Its strength is restraint.

Function

Stonevein serves three primary functions:

1. Scholastic Authority

Stonevein is considered by many dwarves to be the highest authority on structural stonecraft in Gothmyr.

It preserves:

• Ancient carving techniques

• Structural mathematics

• Load-bearing models

• Seismic mitigation strategies

• Archive tablets of past failures and successes

Knowledge is stored on rune-carved stone tablets within tiered archival chambers deep inside the hold.

2. Doctrinal Center of Champions

Stonevein trains and appoints Champions of Alstrün.

These Champions are:

• Warrior-priests

• Defenders of creed

• Bound to answer challenges

• Guardians of sacred doctrine

Each Champion carries a blessed weapon tied to the faith and answers directly to Stonevein’s High Authority.

Champions may leave the hold for rite-of-passage, pilgrimage, or divine calling — but remain spiritually bound to Stonevein.

3. Oversight of Whitefork Granite

While not publicly advertised as such, Stonevein serves as the philosophical and archival backbone behind Whitefork Granite.

Whitefork Granite operates as a guild.

Stonevein preserves the standards. The relationship is longstanding but understated.

Structure of the Hold

Stonevein is layered vertically, following the mountain’s natural strata.

Upper Level

• Council Chamber

• Hall of Champions

• Throne Hall

This level governs doctrine and Champion appointment.

Middle Levels

• Residential quarters

• Instructional halls

• Rune lecture chambers

Lower Levels

• River Forge

• Oath Chamber

• Deep Archives

The Oath Chamber houses massive rune-carved tablets recording lineage declarations and binding treaties.

The River Forge operates with diverted tributary waters to cool its forges, producing rune-locked keystones and sacred relic arms.

Leadership:

High Mason of the Strata

Thrainic Vuldorr Stonewake

An aged dwarf of deep-set eyes and iron-grey beard braided simply, without ornament. Thrainic is known for long silences and decisions that arrive like falling stone — slow, inevitable, final.

He was once a Hallwarden in his youth and carries the quiet bearing of one who has answered challenge personally. His interpretation of the Creed emphasizes discipline over vengeance.

It is said he has not raised his voice in over forty years.

The Strata Council

Elders representing:

• Doctrine

• Craft

• Archives

• Forge

• Champions

These leaders are appointed by consensus and service, not inheritance.

Stonevein rejects clan dominance.

It recognizes mastery.

Current Events:

8327 AF — The Year of the Cracked Hourglass

Stonevein has recently appointed a new Champion of Alstrün.

The hold continues to refine its quarry standards and archival documentation methods.

Reports from Whitefork Granite indicate increasing requests for structural reinforcement in river-adjacent territories following seasonal flooding.

Stonevein has neither expanded its territory nor sought political alignment.

As always.

Rumors

• Stonevein predates most known dwarven clans of Gothmyr.

• Its deepest archives are older than the current Age.

• Certain rune tablets are never shown to outsiders.

• Some believe Stonevein was built around something sacred.

Such rumors are rarely addressed by its leaders.

Stonevein neither confirms nor denies.

It simply remains.
