Khazat-Hal

Khazat-Hal is a dwarven city known for its demonic influence, rampant slavery, sorcery, chaos, and evil.

Demographics

Khazat-Hal is primarily made up of dwarves, with a wealth of sorcerers inside of that population. The dwarves of Khazat-Hal make use of orcish slaves. There are more than twice as many slaves as there are citizens, but the powerful magic of the dwarven sorcerers is enough to keep them docile.

Government

The government of Khazat-Hal is a magocracy, though could be described as feudal in nature with the Sorcerer-King as the head of state.

Defences

Khazat-Hal is surrounded by a massive, fifty foot tall obsidian wall. This affords a fair amount of protection alone, but is bolstered by a large garrison of warriors and battlemages as well as cannons and ballistae.

Infrastructure

Khazat-Hal boasts quite the industrious populous, with siege workshops, numerous blacksmiths and blast furnaces, and large slave worked mines and quarries. There are also schools of sorcerous magic where students learn to harness their innate powers.

History

The people of Khazat-Hal were, at one point, normal, uncorrupted dwarves. However, they were always different than their other kin. It was during ancient times when the peoples of the land were first settling down that the dwarven folk claimed the mountains and hills. The tribal clan of Khazat-Hal chose not to follow their compatriots to the high ground and instead chose to settle in the rocky plains of the west. Over the years the support that they had from their fellow dwarves waned and they lost power and supplies. Eventually, they became desperate and turned to the seductive whispers of the Abyss and, after listening to the whispers for years, became demon worshippers. As time went on, the dwarves’ demonic masters drove them to enslave the neighboring tribes of orcs as a powerful and tireless workforce. Using their new slave force, they were able to bring about a new age of industrialization and advancement. Their bloodlines became tainted by the touch of chaos and the Abyss. This birthed many powerful sorcerers that bolstered the magical prowess and defenses of the city. Over time the sorcerers realized that their innate magical abilities enabled them to wrest control over the stronghold’s government. Thus, the line of Sorcerer-Kings was born. Though they commanded tremendous might, the chaotic dwarven sorcerers’ powers had one devastating drawback. Over time, the sorcerers would turn to stone.
