Personal history

After hundreds of years existing without sentience, the grey ooze that would come to be known as Kharthon came into contact with the dead, decomposing matter of an illithid elder brain. After consuming the remainder of the elder brain, Kharthon's mind awoke. He had not only gained awareness of himself, but a measure of intellect greater than even most archmages and other exceptional arcane minds. The nature of his awakening also unlocked the power of psionics within him. He crawled through the various crevices and caverns of the Lands Below, stealing what psychic might he could from dead and dying duergar, mindflayers, and kuo-toa. Eventually, he was confronted by the Great Purple Worm. Faced with imminent destruction, Kharthon chose to throw himself down a pit to escape from destruction.   After centuries, or maybe even millennia, of decay and stagnancy within a fetid pool at the bottom of the pit that had served as his prison, Kharthon detected humanoid beings poking around. With the remainder of his psionic power, he reached out and touched their minds. These humanoids, an aarakocra and a goblin, were in fact members of the Varahosst's Host adventuring party. In order to win their trust, Kharthon assumed an idiotically charming facade. They informed him that they were looking for a grey ooze such as himself to use in a ritual, and, in order to preserve himself, he offered to direct them to the home of a slime cult in exchange for bringing him with them. The two obliged him and used a jar to transport him. After assaulting the slime cult, Kharthon managed to begin to recharge his psychic energy by siphoning power from the weaker psionic grey oozes. After the adventurers had sacrificed a different slime, they held up their end of the bargain and brought Kharthon to the surface with them.    Continuing to use the false personality he had crafted, Kharthon managed to win the adventurers' hearts. They pooled together some funds at the behest of the goblin who would become Solvax and paid Metal Ox to forge a golden body for Kharthon. Once in private, Kharthon revealed his true identity to Metal Ox. Detecting the great power of the ooze, Metal Ox agreed to go above and beyond in the creation process of the body. After days of work done by the most skilled artificers of the Iron Isle, Kharthon's body was complete. Standing at a glorious eight feet in height, the body was made from gold-plated adamantine. The space where the head and neck would normally be was, however, replaced by an orb of reinforced steel-glass that could magically open up and close to allow entry to and exit from the body. Additionally, its left hand was given a special combat tool called a 'power claw.' The power claw would serve him well, allowing him to square off successfully against an ancient red dragon on the continent of Leikskalar in a battle to help Varahosst's Host gather the Grey Dragon Mask.   After the battle in Leikskalar, Kharthon revealed his true identity to the party before translocating himself to the Lands Below to wage war upon the duergar. His battle against the duergar led to him increasing his psionic might exponentially. Eventually, he encountered Varahosst's Host once more. They had been given a quest to slay him by a duergar goddess who ruled over a nearby city. Kharthon readied himself to destroy the adventurers but, to his surprise, they decided to betray their employer and help him assault the city. Within the hour, the city had fallen. After Raxtas had annihilated the outer wall's guards, Kharthon got through the gate and was able to teleport himself and the party to the main citadel. While the adventurers fended off the royal guards, Kharthon engaged the goddess in combat. After gaining the upper hand, Kharthon used his power claw to crack her skull and extract both her brain and psionic might. As he absorbed her psionic powers, he ascended to godhood. As a final act, he cleaned the city for the adventurers by instantly absorbing all of the duergar into him.    After establishing himself as a god, Kharthon realized he could grow his power by gaining many followers. To do this, he gathered the blood of Xorenath, the Chosen of Varahosst, as well as an artifact, the Grey Dragon Amulet which also was possessed by Xorenath. These ingredients, mixed with his own divine and psionic essence, were sufficient for him to create his own race of beings. This race, dubbed the 'Kharthans,' are humanoid slimes that have an in-born inclination towards the psionic disciplines. While this act did weaken him, it quickly proved to be a successful endeavour as he became a lesser deity.
