Deshem
Deshem is the capitol of Lower Heldan. The city is located off the coast of the ocean in the lower portions of the Great Heldian Desert, however it has one of the worlds largest irigation networks providing water to every house in the massive city. The cove at the southern ends of the city is a large trading hub for travelers and sailors from around the world.
Demographics
Deshem is primarily a human city. However they are small groups of other races that can be found in the sandy streets. The second largest race within the walls are dwarves, mostly in the city as archeologists, using it as an outpost to explore the many ruins found in the Great Heldian Desert. Friendly, albeit greedy, Goblins can be seen running stands in the markets and working in the bank of Deshem. It would be very unlikely for a traveler to find any elves in the city, if you were to see one it is likely that they are not from the neighboring nation of Upper Heldan.
Government
Deshem is ruled by the High Lord of the Nebani family. While there are many noble houses within the city who may appear before the High Lord and voice their political opinions, the High Lord himself has the final say in all legal matters. The Nebani's are said to be the descendants of (insert his name here) who split the world into its many landmasses and founded the city of Deshem.
Defences
The city is surrounded by large stone walls and gatehouses with the only gap being were the city port is. The wall is patrolled by both archers and mages while foot soldiers remaining in the gatehouses ready to move out should a threat approach the walls.
Industry & Trade
The city has a thriving economy, the streets are filled with Bakers, Inns, Restaurants, Black Smiths, Stores, and the local market stands. Other then the day to day civilian shopping, the city does take part in very large trading deals with other nations, this is made easy for the city due to its large and highly populated port.
Infrastructure
Running above the city streets is the massive aqueduct system bringing water to the various sections of the desert city. The aqueduct is one large structure starting from the ocean and flowing above the entire city. The national bank can also be found within the city, while smaller buildings connected to the banks treasury can be found in the smaller settlements through the country. Just outside the city is a massive pyramid, acting as the royal family tomb for the Nebani Family, it is also said that (insert name here) corpse is preserved at the bottom. Despite the pyramid being so large, royal mages have covered it in a mirage spell keeping it hidden from any thieves who would want to loot its hallways.
Guilds and Factions
Deshem is home to 57 noble houses, some of these nobles have moved themselves into positions of power amongst the various industries found here. The nation's Adventurer's guild hub is also found here.
Architecture
Many of the buildings in Deshem are built out of sandstone or stone bricks. The streets, despite being in the middle of the desert, are enchanted to keep the sand off the roads, preserving the beauty of the city.
