Zawilu

Zawilu is the long dead civilization in the southern marches. Their territory covered lands as far east as Imborough and as far west as the Birchwoods, at the height of their wealth.
In their time, the Zawilians were known for an adeptness at crafting. They could make things of all shapes, sizes and compositions. The markets were frequented by travelers from all over looking to acquire any number of these rare items, usually unique in their own right. This contributed to the general wealth of the Zawilian people. In fact, the thing they were known best for was their ability to craft elegant and durable wood furniture. Antiques collectors will often have one or two of these pieces simply for the fact that they are made so tough, that they can last thousands of years, through wars and fires, with little to no damage, rot or wear. The secrets of their craft have been mostly lost to the ravages of time, but modern carpenters often will seek out one of these pieces just for the sake of studying the technique, in hopes of recreating it in some small way.
Circa 2450, the records found within the city mysteriously stop. By all accounts, it is as if all of the city vanished in one moment. Now, if one visits Zawilu they find nothing but dust, crumbling structures and scholars. These are studying the various records left behind, as well as some forensic clues for the purpose of determining the source of their disappearance. The search has led to such fruits as advancements in furniture making, and revealed a few hidden places, but has not so much as hinted at this strange happenstance.

Demographics

Mostly scholars of all races, along with a contingent of guards. This fluctuates based on how exciting of a discovery they have reason to believe exists in the city.
Before the great disappearance, the population was mostly Caiten, but with a healthy rotation of all manner of races travelling in and out.

Government

University expedition is led by a Foreman who handles all administrative and security duties.

Defences

Zawilu is devoid of any defensive structures, it was a relatively peaceful city in its time.

Industry & Trade

There is not much in the way of trade here. Although there are whispers of a secret merchant who has a certain product, if you need something to break the monotony of study.

Infrastructure

The ruins are filled with a multitude of gardens, aqueducts and complex structures.

Architecture

The structures in Zawilu are mostly made of stonework, and plaster. They have beveled edges around most of the buildings and tend to build staircases on the outside of buildings. This allows for a full floor-plan on each floor, but leaves the stairs exposed to rot. As a result they were of simple construction so as to be replaced often.

Geography

Zawilu was built upon a flat marshy plain. The surrounding countryside retains the same wetlands quality, but the city itself has been so long covered in stone and dust that its landscape is forever altered into a barren place.
