The History of Edda so far

It is believed that the first race that inhabited Laurentia were the Gaians. A race of ancient primordial giants and titans, the gaians dominated the world's landscape when all three continents were joined together. Scholars aren't sure as to how they died out, but there are fragments and pieces of history that seem to be more legend than actual facts. Whatever the case, it seems to be the gaians died out and their descendants eventually became the giants. It is believed that Ymir himself, the ancestor to all giants, may have been a gaian.

Current Species & Cultures

  • Humans: Humans first appeared in Gondwana and spread throughout the other continents before they split apart. In Laurentia, migrated in five different groups known as the Five Great Tribes. These people would often war with the elves and giants for supremacy of the continent. They would go onto create the major human kingdoms: Calanais, Caledonia, Rowland, Lerwick, Skara Brae, Berwick, Lyonesse, Rheged, Dalraddia, Pictland, and Skofnung. Humans can be found in Laurentia, Altaia, and Gondwana.
  • Elves: Elves believe they were the first race upon Laurentia, even though this is debatable due to the giants already having been there. The elves went to war with the cloud giants, creating their own kingdoms after throwing off the shackles of oppression. Their great kingdoms were that of Heaseon, Lindon, Galadhos, and the Crenao Tribes. These kingdoms housed the different sub groups of elves, that would later go to war with each other and against the encroaching tide of men. As humans migrated into Laurentia from Gondwana, the elves severed the Landbridge of Lagash that connected the two lands to prevent further from coming over and settling. Humans continued their onslaught and the elves were forced back into the woodland realms where they remain, organizing themselves into a loose confederation that answers to the high king in the Greenwood. Elves are found in Laurentia and Altaia.
  • Dwarves: Dwarves believe they came from under the earth and fought back against the fire giants who enslaved them. The dwarves rose ot the surface, making their mountain homes within the world's major mountain ranges. Some of them left the mountains and took to the hills becoming the hill dwarves. Dwarves are found in Laurentia and Gondwana.
  • Gnomes: Gnomes are an ancient race believed to be older than both dwarves and elves. It is also believed that they are related to the dwarves in some way. They're very adept at magic and were prominent in the ancient human Kingdom of Borith. After the Calamity they spread throughout Laurentia and have fallen into obscurity. They are found throughout Laurentia.
  • Goliaths: Goliaths appeared shortly after the dwarves, living in the world's mountains in a semi-nomadic lifestyle. They are believed to be descended from stone giants. Goliaths can be found throughout Laurentia and Altaia.
  • Firbolgs: Firbolgs are believe to be a cross between giant and fey. Often in habiting the forests and woodlands, keeping to themselves in their communities. Firbolgs live under the rulership of the elves and often aid and help the elves protect the forests. Firbolgs are found within Laurentia and Altaia.
  • Aasimar: Aasimar are mortals who have a touch of the divine. One of their ancestors was a celestial who mated with a mortal, and the product of that union being the first aasimar. Those traits can lie dormant, appearing once again with little to no explanation. They are highly revered by most races. Aasimar are found all throughout Edda.
  • Tieflings: Like aasimar, tieflings are mortal beings who have a touch of the infernal. The first tieflings were products of unions between demons and mortals. These traits can remain dormant until they reappear every once in a while. Tieflings typically live isolated lives away from society. Tieflings are found all throughout Edda.
  • Half-Elves: Half-elves first appeared as the product between unions of men and elves. They are found throughout both Laurentia and Altaia, not sure where they fit in, in the world of men or elves.
  • Half-Orcs: As orcs traveled south in Laurentia, they began to mate with humans producing half-orcs. Half-orcs are shunned by humans in southern Laurentia in fear of their ancestry. Half-orcs are typically found in the more northern areas. They are known to be in both Laurentia and Altaia.
  • Giants: Giants are descendants of the gaians; ancient primordial titans who dotted the world of Edda. Somewhere along the way, the giants came forth into their different groups and subspecies which can be found all throughout Edda.
  • Orcs: The orcs are believed to have had their origins in Altaia. Some scholars think they followed a land bridge that connected the continent with Laurentia. The orcs followed it, coming into Laurentia and inhabiting the Northern Wastes. There are orcs and half-orcs who remained in Altaia.
  • Goblinoids: No one is sure where goblins came from. They simply appeared and are a nuissance.
