Commander Ewyn

Commander Ewyn Rosser

A loyal servant and bastion of Calanais' honor, Commander Ewyn is the epitome of a good and faithful soldier. Coming from humble origins, Ewyn joined Calanais' army in the hopes of serving his country and king. He has done so without fault, believing Calanais to be the nation that leads Laurentia forward. Ewyn currently finds himself in the service of Lord Gruffin Yarwood after saving his life on the battlefield. He is loyal to Lord Yarwood, and believes his liege lord - above all else - has the kingdom's best interests at heart.

Personal history

Ewyn was born in a small Calaian village outside of Firth. He grew up poor and was the second of four children to his father Timm and mother Joan. When Ewyn was quite young his father mysteriously disappeared and hasn't been seen from since. From then on he and his three sisters were raised by their mother. Even though Ewyn grew up poor, he has many fond memories of playing with his friends, and wishing to go on his own adventures. His oldest sister Cinnia (33) would go on to marry a farmer named Iden, and they had two children. Ewyn's younger sister Regan (27) became a school teacher in Firth, and Ewyn's youngest sister Mavis (24) stayed home to work with her mother at the local tavern as a waitress and singer. Ewyn eventually joined the Army of Calanais to follow in the foot steps of his mother's brother; his Uncle Hubert. Ewyn established himself as a capable soldier, showing traits of leadership and heroism; and stepping up whenever the occasion called. Ewyn fought in a border skirmish with Skara Brae which is where he received his scar. A few years later, he was later sent up north to fight a roving hobgoblin warband that had ventured too close to the Howe River. There he saved the life of a noble named Gruffin Yarwood. Yarwood took a liking to the young soldier, and to show his gratitude he took him into his service. Ewyn began serving Lord Yarwood at Culmkerk, and quickly became the lord's commander. Ewyn still serves Lord Yarwood and became the commander of Lord Yarwood's forces. He helped Lord Yarwood and a band of adventurers known as The Guardsmen, take back the city of Drogstone from a militarized band of cultists. Ewyn has since been stationed in Drogstone to bring order back to the city.

Education

Ewyn received a military education when he joined the Army of Calanais. He was taught how to fight along with participating in certain strategies and tactics on the field of battle. He had a knack for it, excelling at leadership rolls which gained the attention of his commanding officers. When Ewyn became an officer he had a more formal education in learning how to read and write. He was taught at a very young age by his mother, but it was limited. Ewyn also developed a knack for languages, learning several during his tenure.

Employment

Ewyn currently serves as the commander of Lord Gruffin Yarwood's forces. Before that he served in the Army of Calanais.

Accomplishments & Achievements

One of Ewyn's lifelong dreams was to go on his own adventures. He was able to do that by joining the Army of Calanais, and Ewyn still considers that to be one of the best decisions he's ever made. Ewyn's proudest moment was when he achieved the rank of Commander. Ewyn had already swiftly climbed through the ranks due to his martial prowess and leadership capabilities, but saving Lord Yarwood's life on the field of battle is what solidified his position. The lord found the young soldier capable enough to command a force of his own.

Failures & Embarrassments

Ewyn is his own critic. He doesn't try to hid the scar on his face, and sees it as a trophy from battle. But he always claims that if his sword work was better, than he never would've gotten it. The hobgoblin who gave it to him is now dead, and that should be a testament to Ewyn's skill in battle, but he doesn't see it that way. Once his face healed, he took any extra opportunity to hone his craft. He also tends to beat himself up in allowing the city of Drogstone to be taken by Father Grimolt and his cultists. Even though he made up for it by helping lead the effort to take it back, he believes that it shouldn't have happened in the first place. Needless to say, Ewyn does not give himself much room for error.

Morality & Philosophy

Ewyn very much believes in doing the right thing whenever possible, standing up for those in trouble, and being the best version of himself. This is the hallmark of his character, earning much respect from those who know him.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Ewyn has the desire to protect his friends, family, and those not capable of defending themselves. He sees himself as an upholder of justice, defender of good, and seeks to do right in whatever way he can. He believes he can do all this by serving through Lord Yarwood.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

His do-good attitude is what drives him, but Ewyn is also blindly loyal. He has this notion that those in power also know what's best, and he carry's out orders on a whim. If it harms other people, Ewyn tries to convince himself that it served some good purpose.
