Most of Edda's surface has been rather thoroughly explored, leaving most unknown places only in the sea, within the Underdark, or created when other realms fuse with the material realm. That being said, Edda has its own fair share of mysteries and ancient fortresses scattering the land, even though most have been co-opted into existing settlements.   The Doorways is one such mystery. Found in the eastern foothills of Agartha, this unassuming marble pavilion is home to some strange stories and rumors about its existance.   Standing at 15 feet tall, with a central platform over 60 feet wide, it is a large circular structure, with a dozen archways decorating its surroundings, painting an interesting tale.    On its own, it seems rather unassuming. Out-of-place and old, sure, but with its various arches it just looks like a pavilion or gazebo one would find anywhere, even in the modern day, but the faint traces of energy and the carvings on 10 of the 12 arches give the impression of a grander purpose. While intensely faint, magical energy related to Teleportation exists around the object, and with the exception of two entrances on the northern and southern sides of the structure, all of the remaining arches are decorated with mostly eroded carvings around the edges, depicting strange sceneries and creatures of an unknown origin.    While historians, archeologists, mythologists, and various other scholars have tried, no one's been able to piece together most of the imagery, however, two of the arches seem to be depicting the Elemental Plane and The Feywild. This does seem to imply that the original purpose of The Doorways was to connect the planes or give some form of connection with otherworldly powers, giving the landmark its name, but it is currently unknown if the other 8 undeciphered archways lead to other planes as well, or lead to different sections of Edda itself, as not all alternate planes are traversable by mortals.   However, as it stands today it does not have the power it might have had, and even experiments to reignite the two confirmed portals have failed, leaving The Doorways to be an interesting and beautiful landmark, but a setpiece nonetheless.

Purpose / Function

On a day-to-day basis, The Doorways serves as a popular meeting ground and date location, along with being a bit of a tourist trap, although only tourists with a fascination for history or marble structures will really be pulled its way.  For the people around the area, it serves as a convenient landmark, providing shade and protection from the elements, combined with a rather good view of the surrounding environment, and its symbolic nature makes it a great stage for meetings and discussions.   While its original purpose is theorized to have been a nexus for teleportation, either planar or throughout ancient Edda, it has long since lost this purpose, and even attempts to reignite it have fallen flat.

Alterations

While the landmark hasn't gone any grand adjustments over the years, due to many wanting it to keep its 'ruined authenticity', due to many other ruins becoming modernized and refined in the process of them becoming integrated into modern settlements, specially trained Lithomancers have been able to extend and restore the original marble and its integrity so that the landmark has very little risk of crumbling further and harming anyone.

Architecture

The marble used to make the Doorways is one of its greatest yet most subtle mysteries. An analysis of the stone reveals that it doesn't match any of the primary marble sources within Agartha, even samples from older, now-closed, sources. Even when checked with neighboring kingdoms, none come back positive. it is entirely smooth, typically with a soft gray hue, but on certain sunny days the light hits it in a way that makes it shine white like alabaster, and some dark nights make it melt into the sky like ravenous obsidian.    The carvings around the arches, as well, contain trace elements of some foreign material, but that too has led to a dead-end comparison-wise.

History

No one knows for sure how long The Doorways have existed in the countryside, and no one knows who really made it in the first place.   After noting the unique qualities of the statue in 518 EE, Agarthan historian Thorben Simmon scoured sources from the nearby area and found that the furthest point back the landmark was referenced was in a wanderers journal dated '200 Bardic Era', placing it -1200 years before the start of the modern era, but that same journal already described it as a ruined and faded landmark, proving its true heyday was long before even that far-off moment in history.
