Paiste ((Pie-ste))

Eleven years ago, a young man awoke surrounded by rubble, rain, and long-since deceased corpses. Without any memories, not even a proper name, he was found and taken in by a priest and brought into the fold of The Ascendent's faith. Paiste, as he would later be named, would spend the next 11 years working with the faith, and learning more about the world around him once more, still barely digging up any information from the past. However, as he began to pull into the magical power of faith, with the intent of helping those less fortunate such as the Dark Elves of Paris, he began to hear dark whispers and callings from the back of his mind, and the scarred left side of his face would begin to ache and tremble as well. On a recent, fateful night, Paiste was targeted by a group of bigotted mercenaries and fell unconscious after repeated attacks. When he awoke, the assailants all laid dead at his feet, claw marks gashing through their body. Official investigators, magical experts, and even the priest who had taken Paiste in all examined him, and found no proof or evidence that Paiste was the one who killed them, but that just left him with more questions and no answers.   On a dark winter's night, two years after the first incident, as Paiste was making his way home an unknown assailant attempted to kill him. This assailant was another Dark Elf, known as The Spear Witch, who hunted him down off of suspicion for being Undead. While Paiste fended her off for some time, with the echoing, dark voice in his mind even aiding him in his escape, he soon became grievously wounded, and backed into a corner. This time, he perfectly saw what had occured. From his blank left eye, a miasma of smoke and energy burst forth, taking the shape of a monstrous, clawed creature, with a head shaped like a deers skull. While Paiste was able to pull it back enough to not kill The Spear Witch, she was wounded, and departed, seeming to understand something about Paiste he did not know, and referred to the creature only as "Mother."   With the form and presence of Mother confirmed to him, Paiste no longer felt that the people around him were safe, and decided to depart the city to find answers, deciding to venture to the town of Wind within Magnum Opus, a small town where he could have plenty of space, in order to not harm other innocents.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Paiste is a thin and lithe individual, without much in the way of muscle mass or body fat. He isn't necessarily frail but doesn't have the best constitution or stamina.

Facial Features

Paiste has a generally unassuming face, with sharp features typical of elven folk, but the upper-left side of their face is scarred, and their left eye is pure-white, lacking pupil or iris. This is merely a slight deformity due to unusual circumstances, but due to it striking a haunting figure, he prefers to cover it with his hair.

Identifying Characteristics

Paiste is most easily recognized by their dual-toned hair, with a sleek ravenesque black on his right side, and a blanched, almost pure white on their left. Additionally, their unique Holy Symbol is also a giveaway for their identity

Physical quirks

He tends to take up as little space as possible, so he keeps his arms close to his body, and sometimes even hunches his back if he's the tallest in the room.

Special abilities

Paiste, as a Cleric, has access to the divine magic that is afforded casters of that style. Their specific domain of worship gives them the power of Grave Domain clerics, affording them unique skills that go towards maintaining the divide between Life and Death.

Apparel & Accessories

Paiste, as a devout cleric, is typically seen in their religious robes over simple clothing, with their trademark purple sash around their specific Domain. He also goes everywhere with a gnarled-oak wood staff and typically wears their unique holy symbol as well.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Paiste's largest goal in life is to survive. As a Dark Elf from the Crescent Moon Ward, he has been given a rare opportunity to escape that life, something they couldn't have grasped before, and doesn't want to squander it. However, they also have an intense desire to help others in their position and fight for those in the same position he and his people are in, no matter the cost.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Paiste is heavily knowledgeable in Religious information, as they are technically an Omni-pantheon worshiper, and have researched various other religions as well. Alongside that, they have a pretty decent understanding of the body's medical functions, as it aids in the art of healing.

Paiste keeps himself extraordinarily clean and is slightly germophobic. He especially takes care to make sure the scarred portion of his face is well cared for.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Paiste isn't a social individual for various reasons, but he is friendly with his fellow church workers, as well as a handful of frequent visitors. However, he wouldn't call any of them particularly close, due to his own choices.

Religious Views

Paiste worships The Ascendents as many do in Paris, but has never felt the calling towards a particular deity during his time as a cleric. Due to being a Grave Domain cleric, he gives special attention to The Dauntless, the deity that presides over that domain, but is otherwise an omni-pantheon worshiper. However, while there are very few ways to actively worship, he's also interested in The Deep Gods, the deities of old Dark Elf civilization.

Social Aptitude

Paiste cannot be social to save his life. He shows enough niceties and politeness towards visitors to the church, but he can barely hold a conversation, approach a stranger, and even struggles to talk to employees while shopping. Thankfully, he does keep a polite and meek disposition, so he doesn't come across as aloof or aggressive, merely painfully awkward.

Hobbies & Pets

Paiste enjoys reading mystery novels, and is tangentially interested in Potioncraft, but doesn't have the time or funds to pursue that hobby yet.

Speech

Paiste speaks sparingly, but when he does it's usually full of long-winded addages and whispered second-guessing, leaving a lot of room between the start of the sentence and the actual point.

Wealth & Financial state

Paiste makes enough working with the church to have stable housing and reliable food, but not much else.

Honorary & Occupational Titles
Paiste isn't in a caste or position to have a lot of particular titles, but his name is one in a sense. He forgot his true name a while ago, but since he had the mismatched section of his face, the priest who found him named him the Paiste, or Patch in common, so others who know the definition sometimes refer to him as The Patch Priest.
