Orc

Born from the thick, hardy trees of Hippolyta, Orcs have been around since the Second Cataclysm, and are the second children of Nature, alongside Elves.   However, in the current day, Orcs are very much in the minority in nature. Propaganda and unfair political decisions made by the ruling Elves of Hippolyta have reduced their prevalence in society along with their shared land to a fraction of what it once was. Some would call the current society of Orcs 'Tribal' but the truth of the matter is Orcs have come to trust no-one except their own kind, and refuse to engage with societies that would shove them to the periphery.   Social issues aside, Orcs are historically protective and tied with nature. Some say that Orcs have the most in common with the original Mortal Forms that created them, as they have an immense tie with the natural world that doesn't exist in the modern form of many other races. They also have strong ideas about protecting the innocent and what's closest to them, and never inflicting undue harm.

Naming Traditions

Unisex names

There are two types of names among Orcs and their cultures. First is the "Traditional" names, which draw from the original language that they and Elves once shared, that soon evolved into the Orcish tongue. Given Names are often translated words for qualities parents wish their young child to have, and Surnames are often derived from an ancestor of notoriety. Then, there are "Modern" Orc names, which eschew any connection with Elves and instead use their own Conlang starting from Orcish and incorporating elements of Primordial found in connection with Nature Spirits. While the naming structure and intentions are the same, the languages have come to be wildly different. [Real life equivalent: Traditional names are Portuguese as well, Modern names are Welsh.]

Culture

Average technological level

While Orcs have not been able to access a large amount of technology, at least in their home areas of Hippolyta, they do have a great amount of magical technology and features, due to having a closer relationship with the land.

Common Taboos

Destroying nature is one of the greatest Taboo's within Orc culture, especially if done by one of their own. While they rely on their knowledge to do things such as controlled burns and keeping a handle on invasive species, a purposeful wildfire or overhunting to the point of endangerment is a grave sin, and will often earn one the ire of the Orcs as a whole.

Ideals

Beauty Ideals

Standard ideals of beauty among Orcs are of very little importance, but in the small occasions they come up, Orcs who seem to be closer to Nature are seen as more "beautiful" or desirable. Tattoos of flowers, accessories made of foliage, and for some people even Greener skin are all seen as elements of Nature, and therefore beauty.

Gender Ideals

The modern-day, along with cultural oppression, has left very few traditional Gender Ideals present within Orc society. It's hard to assign one gender to a set of tasks when you're all actively avoiding cultural genocide, after all. But in traditions and literature, Feminine Orcs and figures tended to be the more knowledgable and charismatic type, whereas Masculine Orcs and figures were portrayed as honest and charitable to a fault, along with having a protective nature.

Courtship Ideals

Courtship is a casual affair among Orcs. While there are emotional meanings and power to it, they don't have a need or desire for big displays for the sake of a union. That isn't to say there's no ceremony to it at all. In fact, there is an intricate, typically private ceremony where the two or more people involved will make their vows in a special part of the local environment, typically a forest due to their population in Hippolyta, and exchange crafted items made for one another.

Relationship Ideals

When two or more Orcs enter a significant relationship, be it Platonic or Romantic, it is in sense a non-verbal statement of protection. They are willing to protect and care for the other person or people however they can.
