The Thieves Guild is no mere band of pickpockets and precocious morally-gray adventurer's-to-be. It is a family, one with a powerful faith as the beating heart, faith in the figure known as The Thief God, and the one at the head of this family of intensely devout thieves is their King.
Typically a shadowy and mysterious figurehead, Eli Grimm is well known throughout the Guild, even if his name is next to unknown outside of it, and watches over his flock like a divine archpriest, or a dutiful parental figure. While he is not Good by any definition of the word, he is kind and nurturing to the thieves within his fold, so long as they remain loyal to the guild and do not actively break their tenents.
But nonetheless, he is a shadow amidst the veins of the Thieves Guild, and they like to keep it that way. Always could be watching, always could be hearing, always could be lurking right behind you in the shadows. While many respect the tenacity and vigor in which he has taken the position, especially the thieves who have been around long enough for the reign of the previous King, just as many fear it, and fear his retribution in turn.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Eli is a massively tall person, with a somewhat lanky yet still strong build. They keep most of their frame covered in cloaks and shadows, especially their hands, of which they have at least two.

Facial Features

Eli's face and body alike are riddled with cuts and scars, wounds that he allows himself to bear, either for intimidation's sake or as reminders for themself. Other than that, their piercing gold eyes amidst black sclera are their most distinguishable feature.

Physical quirks

Eli towers over all individuals when speaking to them, even the rare individual not too much shorter than him will find themselves almost shrinking away in their presence when they need to up the intimidation at least.

Special abilities

While the extent and true nature of Eli's abilities are unknown, it is known that they have a great degree of mastery over shadows, being able to use them as a gateway, a hiding method, and a weapon when used correctly. He's also nigh-unparalleled when it comes to physical combat, being routinely known to dismember and even flay his targets without hesitation.

Personal history

Very few know the past of the man who is now the King of Thieves. They were a young acolyte many years ago, and this tall, towering figure haunted the pathways underneath Paris for decades, rising through the ranks with barely any failures, and even fewer people who could tell of them.
He came to power as the King around 30 years ago, as he dueled the previous King in a trial known as The Shadows Dance, a weeklong event where the two competitors and their most loyal operate fully above ground in order to steal the most valuable objects. At first, it seemed as if Eli had not made a move at all, as words buzzed around about the previous Kings victories and claims, but not a whisper had been heard about Eli or his faithful.
But, as the final minute ticked away on the 7th day, Eli claimed the greatest prize of all, as he suddenly emerged from the King's shadow, and took the most valuable object for this race: the still-beating heart of the King. The cherry on top: with a flourish of his own cloak, he revealed that they had stolen the treasures the previous King had claimed in the past week for themself, all right under their nose.
Many have tried to usurp Eli in his position since then, but none have succeeded, with many finding them freed from the bonds of their flesh in the most literal of ways.

Eli is masculine in physical form alone, carrying themselves more like a living shadow, or as ephemeral as a puff of smoke amidst the fog.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Eli has been leading the Thieves Guild very closely to the original tenants left by The Thief God and has been leading them to prosperity and even more successful hauls. This has also come with 30 years of purging of harmful or 'sacrilegious' allegiances, that led the guild into more dangerous arrangements.

Motivation

Eli is very earnest about the fact that their driving motivation in life is the success and prosperity of the Thieves Guild. He wishes to enforce the six Tenets of the Thief God to embolden the hearts and souls of the members and ensure that God's blessings shine within them. For you see, the greater prosperity the members have, the greater prosperity the guild has, which in turn increases the resources and chances of the members, in a lovely cycle that pleases the intent of the Thief God.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Eli isn't the King of Thieves for nothing. He is a master infiltrator, a pickpocket of legendary renown, and while the Thieves Guild doesn't deal in assassination as a rule, he's also not shy about flexing his physical prowess when the deed needs doing. He's also a wonderful motivator, either out of charisma, faith, or sheer intimidation when the moment calls for it. That being said, he doesn't always know how to talk to people effectively, and he's a bit weaker on people tangential to the guild, but Eli has more than enough people that are better at it to make up for that.

Eli speaks in a low, raspy voice, sounding almost like a whisper, and even in anger barely raises his volume. They make sure to pronounce their words in a concise and emphasized manner, leaving very little room for mishearing or error.

Eli is primarily known as The King of Thieves, but he's also earned the title of The Unseen Master, due to their capability of working entirely unnoticed from the shadows. They've also gained the title 'Shadowed Hand' for that very reason, and those outside the guild know their more bloody works as belonging to 'The Leatherworker', due to the precision at which they flay their victims, and leave the pieces near the corpse as if hanging out to dry.
