Annwn le Fay (An-oon)

Cyfodwr Unbennes Annwn le Fay (a.k.a. Queen of The Otherworld)

"For all ye who read this, know that the Queen still lives, sailing over land, sea, and Seelie at my whim, plundering wealth and secrets as I wish. But, the years have gone, and my time on the land of Edda itself has come to an end, so I leave this tale, this singular legend written by my own hand so that all shall hear straight from this old bitches mouth exactly who I was.   I also leave my treasures throughout the land, my nine great gems, to lead the land and carry on my spirit.   From here on out, you're all on your own. Try not to fuck up the place too much!"
--Forward to The Diary of Annwn le Fay, the most comprehensive story of her life.
Born a mortal noblewoman who refused to be tied down by expectations, becoming a trespasser in the Seelie Court and usurper of the powers of the land, Annwn le Fay is a transgressive figure amongst the fae, but equally as revered.   Brash, callous, and destructive, but equally as empathic, gentle, and matronly, she is a figure of much duality who has gathered knowledge, treasure, and power the likes of which mortals and fae alike could only dream of, her loyal crew and partner Ig by her side the entire way. Riding her ghost-ship, The Crwydryn Meddw or Drunken Wanderer, she's been seen as an omen, a boon, a threat, or a wisened soul by many different people for the various centuries she's been active.   One thing that is consistent about her is the sheer amount of adventures she's gone on. Whether it's through dangerous knots of magic within the Feywild, to exploring the depths of the Unseelie court, and even adventuring through the divine realms of Edda's planar system, Annwn has traveled everywhere and has left many different stories and accounts of her journies along the way. Some have even claimed that she's gone beyond the Wild Zones, seeing the wider world available on Arcanoterra.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Being enhanced by the power of the Seelie land has made Annwn larger and more durable than most people, leading her to strike an intimidating figure to most. She's also gotten very broad and built, as she remains ready to fight in any capacity.

Identifying Characteristics

Annwn has many unique features about her. Striking golden eyes, a large spread of freckles, and flowers magically growing in the curls of her hair, along with her sharp toothy smile.

Special abilities

After eating the flower Titania offered her, Annwn found herself capable of bending the various flora within the Seelie realm to her whim and found that power extended to the other realms as well, although it got a bit harder the less aligned with the fae the realm was. She's also able to offer boons and banes with the power of a Fae, something she's learned to refine with the help of Ig and has taken some time out of her 500+ years of life to learn the ins and outs of basically all kinds of magic.

Apparel & Accessories

Ever since she captured and magically enhanced an entire pirate ship on one of her many adventures, Annwn has owned the aesthetic of a pirate captain, wearing fancy sailors clothes that one would see naval officers wear in court, all with a large black coat draped over her back.

Specialized Equipment

Along her flying, plane-hopping ghost ship, the Crwydryn Meddw, Annwn is also in possession of an entire armory of magical items, weapons, and staffs, which she puts to efficient use battling her various enemies and threats. To list them all would be exhaustive, but her favorite one is a staff made from petrified wood, topped with an astral rose, a staff originally belonging to Titania that she won in a bet. While the staff has the power to control all forces of nature with a whim, Annwn refuses to do anything but hit people with tremendous force.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

No one remembers who Annwn le Fay was in her life on Edda. The long-lived elves of her homeland have no record, and even in her own diary the planer pirate can hardly remember the "Boring, old, day-in-day-out of being some stupid frilly girl."   But, what she could recall after many nights of drinking, thinking, and guessing, is that she was a normal child by the name of Anwen. A name that meant Beautiful, and that's as far as her family cared. So long as she stayed beautiful, everything else was not a concern. What her family did has been lost, but the girl went to balls and meetings and special occasions that were tedious far more than she desired, and found each time absolutely, utterly boring.   As she grew older, and the boring commitments of being beautiful and having money seemed to be endless, Anwen began to spend every second away from her family grip being her true self: adventurous, energetic, boisterous, and a little bit of an asshole, especially when she had a competition to win. She also began to play and wander in the thick forests known to the kingdom of Hippolyta, and wandered past many strange sights, traversing where many others would be too scared to on the island of Ares.   One detail the girl would remember into the later years of her mortal life was an adventure she had in one such forest: where she found a small fairy cruelly kept inside an iron band. While the metal didn't burn the fairy as the legends suggested, it did keep him from leaving, which reduced the creature to tears and wails, which the young girl happened to hear.   Upon seeing the state of the fairy, he began to recite a speech about the boons and gifts he could (try to) bestow onto her should she free him, but he barely had begun before she took the band, and chucked it as deep into the forest as she could away from them. Flabbergasted, the newly freed fairy couldn't help but ask why she just did it so casually.
"Why? Cause I wanted to, duh. Y'er whining would've just gotten annoying, and I can't imagine someone as pathetic sounding as you could cause much harm."
With his freedom given and his pride slightly wounded, the young fae would begin to spend more time with the girl, and the two became ideal playmates. The fae would show Anwen all the best parts of the forest, and tell her stories of the Feywild, of both the God-Fae and their children, and the Seelie and Unseelie that come from the power of nature itself. And the fae would also accompany Anwen into the city under glamour, taking the chance to cause mischief and trickery on a scale neither would be capable of alone.   As time went on, the young girl grew into a young woman, and her parent's desires began to strangle her. No longer could they turn a blind eye to her adventures, to her spirited nature, and to the schemes she called pranks and games. While she never stopped and rebutted her family as many times as she needed, no matter the strikes, groundings, or punishments she received, it began to weigh on her, and make her resent the trappings of her life.   But, even as she endured, something began to build within her. Her fairy companion had begun to see a vengeful fire grow in the young woman's heart, one that was only ignited further when he spoke of the power of those Fae that could be clever and tricksy.   No one knows the life the young Anwen would've led. Perhaps she would've faded into the annals of history, only remembered in passing by the Fae she called a friend if it wasn't for one fateful night.   Her parents had married her off.   On a stormy night, she had met her husband-to-be, a sniveling and forceful man, who found every reason to criticize her, all while her parents fed him more reasons to complain and criticize, with the promise that he would "bend her into shape" over time.   With a force that could only be likened to primal fury, Anwen would make her stand, and inadvertently end her life as a mere mortal. After enduring insult after insult through a "civilized" dinner, the young Anwen threw her meal (luckily for her, hot soup) onto her would-be suitor, and escaped into the night, with the help of her fae companion clearing the way.   As the two ran, pursued by her family and the suitor's gang of bachelors, they fled into the very same forest that she had rescued the Fae in all those years ago. As the angered mortals were fast approaching, the Fae asked Anwen where she wanted to go, to which she had just one answer:
"I wanna be as far away from here as possible! I wanna be where no one can tell me what to do, where I have the power to choose my own damn life and I won't hear a word of backtalk about it!"
With that wish declared, the Fae was able to summon the power within himself and the forest around them to open the path for them both. Normally, he would only be able to take himself back, but this one time it was possible because he wasn't just granting a wish, he was making good on a favor that had yet to be repaid.   With a flash of light and magic, the two were whisked away where few could follow, the Seelie Court, a secluded corner of the planes where even those that could traverse the Feywild would have a hard time finding them without permission.   As the Fae expended his energy, he passed out for quite some time, almost a full day. When he awoke, he found two terrifying things. One, he had somehow transported them right into the royal grove of Titania, the Seelie Queen, and two, Anwen had feasted upon Nine of her Majesties gem-pit Peaches and drank from dozens of her Mead-Suckle flowers.   Only realizing her blunder after the Fae had explained the direness of their actions, the two tried to flee from the grove with haste, but it was revealed that Titania and her knights had eyes on them the whole time, and were waiting for them to leave. The pair were brought to the central chamber of the palace, the Wellspring of Gaia that Titania held as her throne room, and was presented before the queen herself.   The queen questioned the pair on their activities, their blunder, and the reason for their sudden transport to her realm. While the Fae, who the queen addressed as 'Little Ig', was remorseful, Anwen was anything but.
"Tell me, child of mortal trees and mortal soil, what gave you the right to sup upon my sweetened fruits, and to slate your thirst on my honeyed flowers?"
"The right of my handedness, your highnedness! I think I looked with the right of my eyes too, and bit down with the right of my teeth! As for what right I exercised, it's my right to do and claim what I want."
"Quite the comedian thou art, but you are still naught but a twig in the presence of the great tree of Edda herself. What is it that a mortal like yourself claims to want that allows such transgressions?"
"What I want? Hmm, a good question indeed. How about for now, we start with power. Maybe I'll even want to take your power, just as I did your precious fruit and precious flowers!"
As a theater of gasps, laughs, and shock flooded the throne room, which had become crowded with onlookers, the queen wore a sly smile, as her guards covered Ig's protests.   "If power is what you're so desperate to grasp, then perhaps I should give you a proper taste." The queen said as she summoned a small, crimson red rose, sitting on a palm-sized bed of thorny stems.   "Feast upon this flower, which truly contains power akin to mine, of the land itself. We shall let the land decide if you are worthy." This was, of course, a trick. While it was a flower close to the very heart of the Seelie, its power was so potent it was poison for anyone except the fae, and the queen herself was certain that a mere mortal would never be able to truly gain the power of the realm so unlike their own.   But, before either the queen, it Ig, or any other fae could bring up a different point, Anwen had strolled up, snatched the flower from her hand, and eaten it in one bite, thorns and all.   "Note for the future Queenie, if you want someone to be afraid, make sure they got somethin' to lose first!"   As the seconds passed, and the silence made it feel like hours, not only did Anwen not fall or even feel pain, she began to feel taller, bigger, and brighter than ever before. As the Queen realized the truth of the scenario, anger began to overtake her smug superiority, and she moved to order the guards to seize Anwen and Ig, but just as fast Anwen was able to grab her friend, and dash past the gathered soldiers.   As the pair made it into the forest of the Seelie court, they found that the paths through brambles and bushes began to clear, but the other fae would find themselves tripping and stumbling, and being hit with branches.   Titania had not meant for the flower to be a true test of worth, but the land of the fae was a strange one. The queen had announced that the flower would be the vehicle by which the land would decide if Anwen was worthy, and Anwen had no reason to doubt it. And so, the Queen's words and her will made a lie the truth. By eating the flower without hesitation, without shame, and without fear, Anwen had proven herself to the land itself that she had the strength that could rival the Seelie and Unseelie in twine, making her worthy of the gifts of the land, parallel to the great queen herself.   Of course, the spirit of the land could've just thought it would be funny as well.   From that day forth, Anwen would go by a new name, Annwn, meaning Otherworld, describing the planes that she was now free to traverse, and she would begin a grand adventure right alongside Ig, gathering allies, planning heists, and using the power of the land itself to do anything and everything she wanted.

Gender Identity

Annwn was born female, and refers to herself as such, but carries herself with a sense of brashness and power that one would typically see as masculine, and through her Fae misadventures, she has tried a number of different forms and presentations but enjoys her standard body the most.

Education

In her mortal years as Anwen, she received a standard education for a higher-class woman of her time, but as it's been around 500+ years since then, she's had to catch up every once in a while when new information comes aboard her ship.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Annwn has achieved hundreds of "impossible" things in her time, but there are a few she's proudest of:
  • Fended off the Unseelie Storm for ten days and ten nights
  • Sailed into the Elemental Chaos and brought back a shard of Paradoxical Life
  • Visited The Giants Throne and drank with the King of Giants
  • Beat the Great Tenshitsune in a game of Haiku creation
  • Won 'Best Titania' in an impersonation contest, beating the actual Titania in the process
  • Cooked a Lasagna that her youngest daughter called 'Pretty Alright.'

Mental Trauma

Annwn has a pretty good grasp on her life from before, and has had several centuries to deal with the mental trauma of being raised to be a tool, but has gained some additional issues in the process. While her adventures and the dangerous monsters she's faced haven't done anything to shake her, the nature of her powers means she is tied to the Seelie lands, which means any harm done to them harms her as well, and there's two things that've stained the Seelie land enough that it makes even the great Rebel Queen tremble:   The Pitch-Black Flames of Desolation, which burn away life, memory, and fate, and the necrotic energy of the terrible Shadescale, which threatened to rend apart the threads of life holding together Hippolyta and the various levels of the Feywild.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Annwn does what she wants, when she wants and has a very select group of people she would ever break that rule for. The first is her nine daughters, her greatest treasures and gifts to the mortal realm, which she would sail into the heart of a storm for in an instant, and fight the entire world itself if she had to. She also owes her faithful companion Ig the same loyalty, as the pair have stuck side-by-side since their fateful meeting, as Annwn has grown into the Rebel Queen, and Ig has grown to the strength of an Archfey.

Savvies & Ineptitudes

Annwn is good at just about everything, but utterly lacks a lot of what's considered common sense due to her frequent travels, and is also incapable of holding in her impulses, save for very special scenarios.    She is also utterly terrible at baking and mourns the hundreds of souffles she has ruined.

Likes & Dislikes

Her likes and dislikes change on a complete whim, leaving a lot of this up to chance, but a general rule is that so long as it doesn't restrict her freedom, or theoretically restrict the freedoms of overs, she can get with it to some degree, within reason.

Social

Family Ties

Annwn le Fay has nine daughters, although records never speak of a father or even a mate of any kind, each of them having the gift of mastery over one school of magic, with her youngest being a Jack-of-all-Trades.   While Annwn isn't the most hands-on mother, not wanting to risk being overbearing or controlling in her children's lives, she has made sure they were cared for, taught, and most of all, properly loved. Even after hundreds of years, and despite the challenges of staying in the material realm, she still does her best to make time and visit each of their children, to ensure they are living well and happily.   And may the gods have mercy on any soul that prevents them from living well and happily.

Social Aptitude

Annwn is powerfully charismatic and forceful, with the power and wit to back it up, but she has trouble restraining herself and acting pleasant, especially when she doesn't want to.

Wealth & Financial state

Annwn has plundered no limit of gold, items, knowledge, and artifacts for her collection, giving her hoard an undefinable amount of value and power.
