Sorceror State of Boahar
Between the Hills of Zahanat and the western shores of the Giant's Ocean lie the lush savannahs of Boahar. For generations, Boahar was a province of the Noble Republic of Arain, a colony from which slaves and exotic resources were shipped to the capital of Vilrania. It wasn't until the arrival of the mage and supposed son or incarnation of Ellar, Amir Negasi Aman, that the slave traders and elites of Boahar rebelled against Arainian taxes and opression. The conflict, known in Boahar as the War of Boaharan Independence, ended with autonomy for the Boahari cities, who united the divine rule of Aman, their liberator, establishing a theocratic magocracy, where the Sorceror-King still rules to this day.
Demography and Population
The population of Boahar is relatively diverse, largely due to its economy of trading and slavery. Boahar is home to Humans of various ethnicities, with large minorities of Syrrindian and Aharan(ethnicity) Humans. Aside from Humans, Tiefling make up a considerable portion of the population. Unlike in many other civiliations, the Tiefling have carved out a position of considerable power within Boahar. Tiefling families own most of the eastern mines and Tiefling cartels dominate the appropriation and trading in, mostly Human, slaves. As slaves are the main workforce slavery forms the backbone of the Boahari economy, giving the Tiefling a unique position of power.
Religion
The Boahari worship only Ellar, the Human god of endurance, and his demigod son Aman the Sorceror-King. Even though Aman is 'merely' Human, a cult of worship has arisen around him and his powers. Known as the King of Mages the Boahari believe Aman to be the son or mortal incarnation of Ellar. Ellar sent Aman to break the chains of the Gottandic Arainians that bound the Boahari in servitude. Even now, after more than eighty years since the end of the War of Boaharan Independence the mage still rules the small state. The long lifespan of Aman contributes to his cult of personality and both the Sorceror-King as his reign is seen as divine by most Boahari.
As such the only officially reckognised religion in Boahar is that of the Church of the Chainbreaker, the religious title used to refer to Aman. The Church is a loosely organised collection of cults that mystify and venerate Ellar and his son. Between this cults there are many dogmatic differences with some contending that the Sorceror-King and Ellar are one and the same and that Aman is the living incarnation of the god of endurance. Those who do not adhere to any of the cults in the Church's collective, or those that choose to worship other dieties pay a hefty tithe for the privilege.
Agriculture & Industry
Slavery isn't outlawed in Boahar, like it is in nearby Arain or Kar'Linon. Instead it forms the core of Boahari society and economy. On the planes surroundingĀ Pahalaos thousands of slaves work the fields and plantages or tend to enormous herds of cattle and livestock. In the mines near Ashaati numerous slaves excavate tunnels and mine precious minerals and rare gems. In Mahaan, the port city, hundereds of educated house slaves and well-trained slave-soldiers and naval crews are sold each year.
The trade and exploitation of these, mainly Human, slaves is in hands of Tiefling cartels and families. The half-fiends have made it neigh impossible to conduct profitable business in Boahar without involving a Tiefling as a trading partner or go-between.
