Anatoly Belozersky
"Progress cannot be abated by such frivolities like morality and righteousness"
Advisor Anatoly Belozersky (a.k.a. The Inventor)
Political advisor and left hand to Vargas Vallokovich, Burgomaster of Vallaki. If Izek represents the strength of body, Anatoly represents the strength of the mind. He is a cunning and highly intelligent man who borders on being truculent. While he claims the burgomaster to suffer from self aggrandizing, it is calling the kettle black. He thoroughly believes that his intellect and noble status puts him above the common ilk, believing himself not to be cut from the same cloth. His policies have always pushed towards scientific progress within Vallaki and is the voice of reason that prevents Vargas Vallokovich from running Vallaki further into the ground then he already has. At least, from Anatoly's perspective.
Anatoly is a half-elf born in the year 1427 to the noble family of Belozersky. His father, Antoine Belozersky, was a full blood elf and the political advisor to Vargas's father, Vargon Vallakovich, who was a influential noble during rhe reign of the Von Zarovichs. Anatolies education and early years of development were tailored towards politics, specifically being groomed to continue the family legacy of political advisors to the nobility. He wanted for nothing, and Anatoly showed great promise. Even at a young age, his intelligence shined, and he excelled within the realm of politics. In his spare time he was allowed to pursue his real passion; Invention. Anatoly was, and is, obsessed with all things involving technology, science, and progress. He himself have made several contributions to the world, including several improvements the steam engine and electricity. He has also been instrumental in funding towards scientific advancements, and has made several donations himself. When Strahd conquered Barovia, his family migrated to what is now modern day Vallaki. His father passed from a sudden fevor before the completion of the city, leaving Anatoly to pick up his father's mantle and continue to serve the Vallakoviches. He has known Vargas since a child, and has grown quite adept at placating him. Before his fathers death, Anatoly was arranged to marry his first wife, Charlotte De Chair. The marriage successfully united the two families into a dubiously favorable relationship, with the Belozersky's eventually takingover completely and leaving the De Chairs nothing more than a footnote in history. Before the Day of Ash, when the Obitus Scholare were not excommunicated from the church and city alike, Anatoly was an advisor and contributer to several projects that the Obitus completed. Namely the introduction of electricty to Vallaki, and the creation of the Manikin. After their terrible crimes, Anatoly distanced himself from the group, and cooperated fully with both the Church and State in the investigations revolving the criminal organization. A judge found him not guilty of any crimes, and was given a full pardon on any charges related to the Obitus. Whether this is the truth or not, only a select number of people know.
